[https://www.patreon.com/NaturalCrit](https://www.patreon.com/NaturalCrit) \n3 \nChapter One: Lore \nN THE RICH TAPESTRY OF FORGOTTEN REALMS LORE, the history of lycanthropy is deeply intertwined with the cosmic dance between Selûne and Malar, reflecting the fundamental conflict between light and shadow, creation and destruction. The following is an expansion of lore \nto give players and DM’s a broader sense of lycanthropy and its potential impact on the game. \nSelûne’s Original“Blessing” of Lycanthropy \nAncient myths and legends suggest that Selûne, the Moonmaiden, was the original creator of lycanthropy, bestowing it as a blessing upon favored mortals. This initial form of lycanthropy was not a curse, but a gift of \ntransformation, a way for worthy individuals to connect more deeply with the wild, the lunar cycles, and the primal energies of the natural world. \nHere’s how this “blessing” was generally envisioned: \nHarmonywith Nature \nThose gifted by Selûne were meant to live in harmony with both their humanoid and animal natures. The transformation was intended to be a deliberate act, away to gain the strengths and senses of the beast without losing one’s intellect or moral compass. \nProtection and Guardianship \nThese early lycanthropes were often champions of nature, protectors of sacred groves, and guardians of the wild. They used their enhanced abilities to defend the innocent, track down threats, and maintain the balance of the natural order. \nVoluntary Transformation \nA key aspect of Selûne’s original blessing was the ability to control the transformation. It wasn’t forced by the full moon or by wounds; rather, it was a conscious choice. Good Alignment: The recipients of Selûne’s blessing were inherently good-aligned, and their transformations were meant to amplify their virtuous qualities, such as loyalty (like a wolf), courage (like a bear), or cunning (like a fox, in a good way) . \n“Selûne’s Kiss” \nThis phrase is sometimes used in lore to refer to this original, benevolent form of lycanthropy, emphasizing its divine and gentle origin. \nMalar’s Corruption \nMalar, the Beastlord, the God of the Hunt, Bloodlust, and Bestial Savagery, saw Selûne’s gift as an affront to his domain and a weakness. He believed that the true essence of the wild was untamed, brutal, and driven by instinct and hunger, not by gentle harmony. Malar craved raw, unbridled power and sought to pervert any natural force for his own violent ends. \nMalar corrupted Selûne’s blessing through various means: \nInflicting the “Curse” \nMalar introduced the idea of lycanthropy as a curse rather than a blessing. He twisted the magical essence of the transformation, making it: \nInvoluntary \nThe iconic, uncontrollable transformation under the full moon is a hallmark of Malar’s corruption. It removes agency from the afflicted, making them slaves to the lunar cycle and their bestial urges. Contagious: Malar made lycanthropy a disease that could be spread through bites, turning it into a plague rather than a bestowed gift. This allowed him to rapidly increase the number of lycanthropes, creating more potential followers. \nAlignment Shift \nCrucially, Malar imbued the curse with a potent corrupting influence. For most forms of lycanthropy (especially werewolves, wereboars, and wererats), succumbing to the curse means a gradual but inevitable \n4 \nLYCANTHROPY | Chapter 1 \nshift towards an evil alignment, driven by the hunger, cruelty, and viciousness that Malar embodies. The beastbegins to dominate the mind, turning the individual into a predator. \nLoss of Control \nThe s","cbCaioDyTBffDBXS","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaioDyTBffDBXS","pdf",33016574,17,"English","# Chapter One: Lore\n## Selûne’s Original “Blessing” of Lycanthropy\n## Malar’s Corruption\n## Lycanthropy: Good vs. Evil","[{\"question\":\"What does Selûne’s original “blessing” of lycanthropy represent?\",\"answer\":\"Selûne’s “blessing” is portrayed as a benevolent gift of transformation, intended to help favored mortals connect with the wild, lunar cycles, and natural primal energies without removing intellect or moral compass.\"},{\"question\":\"How does Malar corrupt lycanthropy in the lore?\",\"answer\":\"Malar twists the transformation into an involuntary full-moon curse, makes it contagious through bites, and adds a corrupting influence that drives many forms toward an evil alignment.\"},{\"question\":\"Are all lycanthropes inherently evil?\",\"answer\":\"No. Even if their curse originated from Malar, some lycanthropes can remain good-aligned, with Selûne’s priests helping afflicted individuals control the curse or remove it, including werebears and other good subtypes mentioned in the text.\"}]","LYCANTHROPY: LORE & SUPPLEMENTAL RULES - Chapter One - Lore | PDF",1791233074,26]
