These activities have been created by our Specials Teachers and are intended to enrich the experience of each content area by providing opportunities to dive further into the content of your choosing. They will use creative thinking, drawing, and crafting skills to produce a pop art inspired interactive sculpture.  \nMaterials Needed  \n1. White printer paper or construction paper  \n2. Markers or colored pencils  \n3. Clear packing tape  \n4. Scissors  \n5. Stuffing (cotton balls, tissue paper, scrap paper, etc.)  \nInstructions  \n1. Choose Your Object  \n○ Pick an item you want to turn into a squishy.  \n○ Examples include: Your favorite cereal box, an icecream container, a stuffed animal, a candy box you'd see at the movies, or a creative design of your choice.  \n2. Draw Your Design (Front and Back)  \n○ On a sheet of paper, sketch the design of your object using pencil. (Front and back)  \n○ Make sure both drawings are about the same size and shape.  \n○ Once your sketch is complete, outline your design using a sharpie or black marker.  \n○ Next color in the full sheet of paper matching the colors to your reference photo or object.  \nExample: If you're making a Jolly Rancher box, draw the front of the box with the logo and flavors, and the back with ingredients or a barcode. The more detail the better!  \n3. Cut Out and Seal Your Object  \n○ Carefully cut out your design.  \n○ Using clear packing tape, place it over your whole drawing to seal your design in place.  \n4. Tape Edges  \n○ Place the two shapes back-to-back (colored sides facing out) .  \n○ Use clear packing tape to seal around the edges.  \n○ leave a small opening on one side for stuffing.  \n5. Add Stuffing  \n○ Add stuffing through the opening in the side of your sculpture. You can add a much or as little as you want depending on how squishy you want your sculpture to be!  \n6. Seal It Shut  \n○ Once stuffed, close the opening with tape.  \nSCIENCE  \nSecond Grade into Third Grade  \nBuilding on Measurement, Animals, Weather, Extreme Weather, and Bird Characteristics  \n● Measurement Mania:  \n○ Nature Scavenger Hunt: Go on a nature walk and measure different things using  \nnon-standard units (leaves, sticks, hands) and then introduce rulers and measuring tapes for more precise measurements. Measure the length of leaves, the circumference of trees, orthe distance between plants.  \n○ Weather Station at Home: Help your child create a simple weather station. This could include a homemade rain gauge ( using a clear jar and ruler), a simple wind vane ( using a paper plate and straw), and observing cloud types. Record daily observations in a weather journal.  \n○ Cooking & Baking: A fun way to practice measurement!
