The narrator decides to publish a personal post online after years of privacy, weighing fears of oversharing against the need to let others understand Jude and Tommy’s real lives. The text follows the initial publication, rapid supportive engagement, and the gradual decision to continue sharing sleep, meltdowns, schooling, and diagnosis experiences to reduce isolation and answer recurring questions from readers.","Thank you for downloading this Simon & Schuster ebook. \nJoin our mailing list to get updates on new releases, deals, recommended reads, and \nmore from Simon & Schuster. \nCLICK HERE TO SIGN UP \nAlready a subscriber? This is for you – and for every other family like ours, Йnding their way. \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nPrologue \nIt’s just gone 8 p.m. and the house is unusually calm. \nCharlotte is upstairs trying to get Tommy to go to sleep. I’m downstairs with Jude, who is standing inches away from the TV, his eyes tracking Mickey Mouse across the screen, Мapping his Йngers in rhythm. One upstairs, one downstairs, the story of our life. \nI grab my laptop and sink into the sofa. Tonight’s the night. I’ve been putting this oА for too long. If I don’t do it now, I never will. \nThe post is written. I’ve reread it twenty times. Edited it a dozen. It’s honest. Maybe too honest. I hover over the ‘publish’ button like it might bite me. \nI’m not sure what scares me more: that nobody will read it, or that people actually will. \nI’ve written it for friends and family. But other people might read it too. \nIt all feels so unnatural. Up to now, I’ve never been one of those people who shares everything online. There’s been the odd photo of the boys. Pics from our wedding. The occasional day out. And that’s about it. I kept the real stuА private, especially the hard stuА. Which was most of the last three to four years. But recently, something in me has shifted. After years of bottling everything up, of trying to stay strong and Йgure it all out alone inside my mind, I’ve felt an urge I can’t shake. A need to write. To get it out of my head and onto a page. I can’t seem to talk about our lives out loud, I choke up with emotions every time I try, words failing me. So I wondered if, maybe, I could write it down instead. \nNot for likes. Not for sympathy. But because I want people to get to know Jude and Tommy. Our life has become more and more isolated of late. People aren’t seeing the boys anymore, not really. Perhaps this post, this moment of openness, is one way to change that. But I can’t stop the worry spiralling in my head. \nAm I oversharing? Will people think I’m attention-seeking? Using my boys for sympathy? \nBut I also don’t know how else to explain what our life is really like. \nWe’ve been living in what feels like a diАerent world. A world of diagnoses, therapies, meltdowns, sleepless nights and routines so rigid that turning left atthe end of the road instead of right can cause a complete collapse. A world where we’re still waiting for Йrst words. For Йrst friends. \nBut it’s a world Йlled with beauty too. Jude’s huge smile whenever he’s listening to Ed Sheeran or watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Tommy’s quiet joy and sense of accomplishment when he completes a puzzle meant for kids twice his age. Moments of pure happiness, buried in the chaos. Moments that feel like they are happening in secret. No one else really sees them. No one else truly sees the boys, not the way we do. \nAnd the hard days? The ones where I feel like I’m failing everyone? I’m deЙnitely not talking about those with anyone. \nSo maybe, if I can’t say it all out loud…I can write it. \nI take a deep breath. Click. The screen refreshes. The post is live. \nI shut the laptop and feel like I might be sick. I Йght the urge to open it backup and refresh the screen again and again. I manage to hold out for six and a half minutes before checking to see what people think. \nThere’s already ten likes. A name I haven’t seen in years. Another one. Then the comments start coming in. They’re all positive, encouraging, telling me to keep going. More names.
