When the information needed to access that environment is provided in a thoughtful, structured fashion, the unfamiliar quickly becomes comfortable, friendly, welcoming. A successful wayfinding system manages this experience, using signage as a communication tool to not only facilitate access, but also to reflect the institutional culture and complement the architecture and environment of its setting. \nway f i n d i ng syst e m o bj ect iv es \nHonor the LSU tradition \nCapture the cultural character of Baton Rouge Evoke the spirited attitude of both students and fans Reinforce the LSU brand \nClearly inform, direct, and orient \nCreate a safer, more user-friendly environment \n􀀤 \n􀀥 \nintroduction \nLSU has acknowledged the substantial impact signs have on the campus landscape as well as on the ability of visitors to successfully navigate the university environment. \nDisorganized and inconsistent signs can actually detract from a campus environment, leading to the complaint of“sign clutter” on campus while risking confusion of campus visitors. In the absence of a formally documented sign program, inconsistency of execution over time can cause campus signs to evolve to this state despite the best efforts of those who maintain them. \nThe program summarized in this document formalizes a family of signs that will enhance the campus environment and improve wayfinding. The manual also serves as a definitive sign policy for Louisiana State University. The sign designs are a response to the character of the main campus, providing an effective, yet “low-key” presence in the landscape while reinforcing LSU’s graphic and color identity. The designs also provide a means to consistently apply this identity to satellite campus locations. Components of the program are designed to enable flexible application to a variety of installation conditions, and are responsive to the capabilities of the LSU sign shop for maintenance and updating over time. \nL O U I S I A N A S TAT E U N I v E r S I T y | c A m p U S wAy f I N d I N g S I g N A g E g U I d E L I N E S \nThe guidelines are intended to comply with applicable MUTCD, ADA, and LADOT codes \nway f i n d i ng d es ig n p roc ess \nThe Guidelines were developed in collaborative fashion, withinput from the Office of Facility Development and Campus Planning, a wide spectrum of campus stakeholders and the campus community along with the consultant. \nway f i n d i ng ma nag e m e nt t ea m \nThe primary University decision-making authority for development of the signage guidelines was the Wayfinding Management Team, whose responsi","cbCaibifdBy0jTRE","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibifdBy0jTRE","pdf",61041781,121,"English","# The role of campus wayfinding\n## Introduction\n## [1. design principles]\n## Themes and design inspiration\n## Wayfinding strategy\n## Wayfinding plan\n## Destination hierarchy\n## Sign location plans\n## Campus map strategy\n## 2. sign designs\n## Campus identity\n## Vehicular wayfinding and parking\n## Facility identification\n## Pedestrian wayfinding\n## Alternative transportation\n## Event signs\n## 3. details and specifications\n## University identity\n## Typography\n## Sign colors and materials\n## Symbols and arrows\n## Standard details\n## Individual sign details\n## 4. appendix","[{\"question\":\"Who is responsible for implementation and maintenance of the sign system?\",\"answer\":\"Implementation and maintenance are the responsibility of the Office of Facility Services.
