It details the journey of a cargo ship named Cheetah, captained by Juan, as it traverses the canal to transport coffee beans from Brazil to Korea. The Panama Canal, an 82-kilometer-long waterway, connects the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, facilitating passage for approximately 144 sea routes that link 1,700 ports in 160 countries. The document explains the function of the canal's three lock sites: Agua Clara Lock, which uses water tanks to raise ships from the Atlantic Ocean's sea level to Gatun Lake, and Cocoli Lock, which lowers ships from Gatun Lake to the Pacific Ocean's sea level. Gatun Lake, an artificial body of water, serves as a resting point for ships at the canal's highest elevation. The text also lists the major types of vessels that use the canal, including container ships, LPG and LNG vessels, cargo ships, vehicle carriers, and passenger ships. Furthermore, it enumerates the primary products transported through the canal, such as grain, chemicals, container cargo, coal, soda, minerals, metals, and petroleum products. The document highlights the engineering marvel of the lock system, likening the process to climbing stairs as ships are gradually elevated or lowered between different water levels. The construction of a larger lock in 2007 is mentioned to accommodate the increasing size of cargo ships.","The Panama Canal-Location is \nImportant! Dania Evelyn Lyew Quant \nDania Evelyn Lyew Quant \nMy name is Juan, and I am the captain of the cargo ship Cheetah. \nWe are going to cross the Panama Canal to bring coffee beans from Brazil, in South America, to Korea, in Asia. \nThe Panama Canal is a waterway that was built to connect the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. \nIt is 82 kilometers long. About 144 sea routes travel through the Panama Canal connecting 1, 700 ports in 160 countries around the world. \nThere are three lock sites on the Panama Canal. Two were opened in 1914,but as cargo ships got bigger it became necessary to add a larger one, which was done in 2007. \nWe will pass through the Panama Canal on the Cheetah. \nThis transit lane has two locks. \nThe Agua Clara Lock has three water tanks designed to raise the ship from the sea level of the Atlantic Ocean to the surface of Gatun Lake . \nThe Cocoli Lock lowers the ship from the surface of Gatun Lake to the sea level of the Pacific Ocean. \n5 \nWhen the ship arrives, the door on the lower level opens and the ship floats in. Then the door closes, and the tank is filled with water. As the tank fills, the ship floats up. The door on the second level opens, and the ship goes in. \nThis way, the ship climbs up to the third level, almost like going up stairs. When the ship reaches the third level, it has arrived at Gatun Lake . \n7 \nGatun Lake is an artificial body of water at the highest point of the Panama Canal, and the ships that pass through the canal take a short break here . \nThe major vessels that pass through the large transit lanes of the Panama Canal are container vessels, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vessels, liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels, cargo ships, vehicle carriers, and passenger ships. \nThe main products that pass through the canal are grain, chemicals, container cargo, coal, soda, minerals, metals, and petroleum products.","cbCaielqsX1C1kxJ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaielqsX1C1kxJ","pdf",1169238,1,25,"English","en",105,"# The Panama Canal\n## Journey of the Cheetah\n## Canal Features\n### Agua Clara Lock\n###
