Through conversation between Folomo, Keebeh, and their children, the story connects daily experience to faith and learning. God’s creation of day and night is explained, along with the Earth’s rotation causing simultaneous day in one place and night in another. The moon’s changing size is linked to its orbit and shifting visibility over about 28 days.","Literacy International: Why Do We Have Day and Night? \nCopyright © 2021 Literacy International [info@literacyinternational.net](info@literacyinternational.net) \nEnglish Spiritual \nLiteracy International: Why Do We Have Day and Night? \nCopyright © 2021 Literacy International [info@literacyinternational.net](info@literacyinternational.net) \nEnglish \nCopyright © 2021, Literacy International \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/) \nYou are free to make commercial use of this work. It sent streams of light into the room where Folomo and his family were sleeping. \nFolomo called to his wife and children,“Get up now. We need to go work on the farm. The rains will soon come and we must finish hoeing the ground. Then we can plant our seeds.” \nFolomo’s wife was named Keebeh. She got up. She dressed in her long skirt, brushed her hair, and put on a head tie. Keebeh cooked some plantain in palm oil, and rice and fish \nFolomo and the children came to eat. The boy, Yakpawulo, said,“Thank you, Mama. You’re making plenty good breakfast for us.” The girl was named Yasa. She said,“Yes, Mama. You help us to be strong for the farm work.” \nAfter the family ate, they all walked to the farm. They dug up the ground with their hoes. They lifted the dirt into rows for planting. All morning the whole family worked hard. \nAt noon, the sun was directly over their heads. It was bright. It made the air very hot. Folomo, Keebeh, and the children were tired. They stopped to rest. \nWhile they were resting, Keebeh brought water for them to drink. Folomo went and cut some sugar cane.“This sugar cane is good,” said Yakpawulo.“It will help us to work better this afternoon.” \nAfter resting a while, they started to work again. They dug into the ground some more. They broke up clumps of dirt into smaller pieces. They hoed the dirt into the shape of little hills where they would plant the seeds. \nAs they worked, the sun kept moving across the sky. In the late afternoon it was not quite so hot. Keebeh said,“Soon the sun will go down. Then it will begetting dark. We can go home and I will cook rice.” \n“Sometimes I wish it would be light all the time,” said Folomo.“Then we could get more work done.” \n“Well, father,” said Yakpawulo,“If it was light all the time, when would we rest? We need rest and sleep, more than for a few minutes like the rest we had this noon. Daytime is for working and doing things together. Nighttime is for resting.” \n“That’s right,” said Folomo.“God planned it that way. It says in the first chapter of the Bible that God made the day and the night. He divided the light from the darkness. He called the light ‘day’ and the darkness‘night.’ ” \nKeebeh added,“God made the sun to be our big light during the day and He made the moon to be our small light at night.” \n“We learned about that in school,” said Yasa.“Our Earth doesn’t stay still. It spins around, once all the way around every 24 hours. There’s always a side of the Earth facing the sun; that part of the Earth is having day. And there’s always a side of the Earth facing away from the sun. That side is having night.” \n(This drawing is not to scale. The sun is actually 93 million miles away from the Earth.) \n“One part of the world has daytime, and another part, on the opposite side, has night at the same time. When it’s day in India, it’s night in Brazil.” \n“Yes,” said Yakpawulo.“It looks like the sun travels across our sky, as morning changes to afternoon and then to night. But really it’s the Earth that moves. Each part of it faces toward the sun sometimes and away from it other times.” \n“God was very wise when He created everything,” said Folomo.“He decided to make the Eart","cbCaitq8Xf9K4eYd","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitq8Xf9K4eYd","pdf",236302,1,13,"English","en",105,"# Literacy International: Why Do We Have Day and Night?\n## Morning farm work and noon heat\n## Evening rest and God’s plan\n## Earth rotation and worldwide day-night\n## Moon phases and a 28-day cycle","[{\"question\":\"Why do daytime and nighttime exist, according to the story?\",\"answer\":\"The story says God planned day and night, separating light from darkness.
