It recounts how God commands Elijah to hide by a brook and sends ravens to bring bread and meat, then later directs Elijah to Zarephath where a widow’s flour and oil remain sufficient through a second miracle. It also follows Elijah’s confrontation with King Ahab and the 850 priests of false gods, ending with God’s restoration of rain and the people’s response. Other people, who have nothing to eat, know that they should not take ease and comfort for granted. They are glad to look to God to supply their needs. \nA man of God named Elijah received a command from God.“Go to your king, Ahab,” God said,“and tell him that because of his great sin his country will have no rain until I decide to give rain once more.” After Elijah went to Ahab and gave him this bad news, he had togo away and hide because the king was very angry at him for bringing this message. God told him where to hide across the Jordan river to the east and in a narrow valley where there was a small brook. How would he get food to eat way out there? God told him,“I have ordered ravens to bring you bread and meat every morning and every evening while you are there.” \nThis was out of the ordinary, but there is nothing ordinary about God. He can give orders to ravens just like he ordered Elijah to tell Ahab what this king didn’t want to hear. Elijah knew God so well that he trusted what He had said. So he crossed the river and went to the valley where he found a small brook. This would give him water to drink. \nThen, as God had promised, the ravens began to come with food for him. Morning and evening, day by day, they didn’t miss a single time. They had bread and meat for him, and they knew how much he could eat. So it was not too little and not too much. \nWhere did they get this food? Elijah never found out, but he knew enough about ravens to know that they could swoop down on a market table or into a kitchen window and snatch something up. If they saw a caravan plodding along, sometimes a dried hunk of meat would be tied on top of a load. This was considered fair game for the birds though caravan men tried to shoo them away before they tore off apiece. \nRavens are bigger and stronger than crows, so these birds who took care of Elijah in the wilderness might even have come from Ahab’s palace where his queen, Jezebel, fed 850 priests of false gods daily. Food was there and to spare, and if Ahab, who was hunting for Elijah, was also feeding him, the angels in heaven would have a good laugh. \nAs for Elijah, he knew the songs of David, especially the one where he calls God his Shepherd, the One who sets a table for him in the presence of his enemies. So Elijah would thank God for the food which the ravens brought, and he was thankful for these birds, who flew many miles for him. They would often drink at the brook before they left Elijah. \nNow God had stopped the rains as He said he would, and so after a while the brook where Elijah was staying began to get smaller and smaller until finally it was a few pools of water. The time had come for God to give Elijah another surprise, and he","cbCaipRIvqsOPRhb","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaipRIvqsOPRhb","pdf",262793,1,13,"English","en",105,"# When Ravens Carried Daily Bread\n## Daily Bread and the Need to Trust God\n## God Sends Ravens for Elijah\n## The Widow of Zarephath and the Never-Empty Supply\n## Confrontation with Ahab and the False Priests","[{\"question\":\"Why did people pray for daily bread when they had plenty?\",\"answer\":\"The text explains that those with plenty may wonder why daily bread should be asked for, while those without food recognize they cannot treat comfort as guaranteed and look to God for provision.\"},{\"question\":\"How did God provide food for Elijah while he hid from King Ahab?\",\"answer\":\"God told Elijah that ravens would bring bread and meat every morning and evening while he stayed by the brook in the hidden valley.\"},{\"question\":\"What miracles sustained Elijah after he traveled to Zarephath?\",\"answer\":\"When the widow had nearly run out of flour and oil, God told Elijah the jar would not empty and the jug would not dry.
