Most days were sunny and bright, and each afternoon they had gentle rains.  \n“The rain is good for our rice,” said Sheng-hai.“It is good for our other crops. Yes, our fields are small, but we will have enough if we get in the harvest.”  \nSeveral weeks later Sheng-hai, with the help of his mother, had harvested their fields and they were busy drying grain.“Thank you, heavenly Father,” they prayed to God.  \nThen from the large house across the road, rich neighbor Wang called,“Widow Lee, you better watch out! I hear a big storm is coming, and your house is ready to fall down.”  \nSheng-hai called back,“Thank you for warning us. We will do what little we can. As you know, our thatch roof has many holes. But we will move everything to one corner and then hope that loose ridge pole doesn’t fall down.”  \nMr. Wang shook his head. He did not offer to give them space in his house. Instead he got out boardsand put them over his windows. Then he looked up athis new thatch roof. It seemed firm enough. He thought how strange the Lees were. Always talking about God caring for them! They were happy, though poor. How strange!  \nSheng-hai worked hard. He piled up the grain bins and tools, bedding and clothes, and other supplies.“Ma,”he said,“We have done all we can do. God will have to take care of the roof when the wind comes.”  \nThe rains came first, and soon there was water dripping through the holes in the roof. The earthen floor was wet and slippery, but the Lees and their goods were still dry.  \nDuring the night Widow Lee and Sheng-hai could not sleep, but they often prayed. Widow Lee said,“Oh God, You rule the winds and the rains. They are Your servants. Tell them tonight what they must do, and they will obey You. And You tell us to have no fear. So we will obey You, too. We are in Your hands. Please protect us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.” And Sheng-hai added,“Amen!”  \nThe wind howled. The wind shook their house. At onetime they heard a loud thump as the roof moved, but in the darkness they could not see what had happened. Later they also noticed that the water was no longer coming through the roof even though it was still raining hard outside.  \nBy early morning the storm had passed, and when the light came, they looked to see what had happened. Sheng-hai pointed up at the roof beam and exclaimed,“Ma, God told the wind to lift it back into place, and the wind obeyed. Look, it is back where it belongs. God has used the wind to fix it for us! That was the loud thump we heard last night.”  \nThen he stepped outside with his mother. They looked up at their roof. All the thin places had been covered by fresh thatch which had blown over from other houses. That is why the leaks stopped.“A miracle! God has answered our prayers,” said Widow Lee.  \nTurning, she looked across the road. Neighbor Wang and his family were outside, looking at their house. Its roof was blown completely away.  \n“Sheng-hai,” she said quietly to her son,“That family has suffered.
