People who live near those trees pick their fruit. They eat it and enjoy it. The fruit is a blessing.  \nA Christian is like a fruit tree. At first he or she may not be strong. But as he lets the Holy Spirit take over his life, he becomes stronger. He learns more about Jesus. He understands more of what God wants him todo. And he produces “fruit.”  \nOthers can see good things in him. The more he lets the Holy Spirit direct his thoughts, words and actions, the more fruit he produces. His life shows that he is living close to Jesus.  \nWe read about this fruit in the Bible: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”(Galatians chapter 5, verses 22 and 23.)  \nLOVE  \nLove is a feeling of good will, of caring greatly for someone else. It is a feeling of affection, of fondness. But love is more than a feeling. True love leads to action.  \nIf we love a person, we help that person whenever we can. We do or say things that will bring him knowledge or pleasure. We do or say things that will make things better for him. If we truly love someone, his happiness is just as important to us as our own happiness. Weare devoted to him and loyal to him.  \nWe read of many laws in the Old Testament of the Bible.”Do not have any other gods before Me,” “Honor your father and mother,” and “Do not steal” are some of them. But Jesus said all the laws could be summed up in two statements: Love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself. The most important thing God wants us to do is to love.  \nThe 13th chapter of I Corinthians tells what real love is like. Those who have love are patient and kind. They are trusting. They believe in people, even in those that others do not believe in. They are not jealous. They are not proud and do not boast. Those who love do not look for gain for themselves but look for ways of helping others.  \nA person who loves is not rude and does not get angry easily. He does not keep a record of what others do wrong. He is sad when he sees evil and happy when things go well for other people. He is happy with the truth.  \nGod Himself is the greatest example of love. The Greek word for God’s love used in the New Testament is agape (“ah-gah-pay”) . It means a sacrificial love, a love that gives but does not ask for anything in return. It means loving a person even though he does not deserve to be loved.  \nWhen Jesus was on the earth, He had that kind of love. And He still does. A Christian can have that kind of love. He has it more and more as he lets the Holy Spirit take over his life.  \n“My command is this: love each other as I have loved you.”(John 15:12)  \nJOY  \nJoy is calm gladness. When a person has joy, he is not just cheerful on the outside. He is deeply satisfied and content on the inside. That contentment comes from knowing that God loves him and forgives him.  \nJoy is not the same as happiness. It is stronger than happiness. A person is happy when good things are happening to him.
