It contrasts good words that build friendship and share true facts with evil words that generate fear, lead people away from God, and elevate leaders or products above spiritual values. The booklet categorizes seven methods—bandwagon, testimonial, glittering generalities, name-calling, plain folks, card-stacking, and transfer—showing how each works and why it can cause harm.","Literacy International: Lying Words \nCopyright © 2018 Literacy International [info@LiteracyInternational.net](info@LiteracyInternational.net) \nEnglish Spiritual \nLiteracy International: Lying Words \nCopyright © 2018 Literacy International [info@LiteracyInternational.net](info@LiteracyInternational.net) \nEnglish \nCopyright © 2018, Literacy International \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/) \nYou are free to make commercial use of this work. Liarscan use words also to tell lies. The words themselves may not lie but liars can wear fine clothes and use them to look good and honest. They can promise wonderful things. \nGood words bring friendship, fun and true facts. People can use them also to praise God. Evil words bring fear or twisted thoughts. People can use them to lead others away from God. Then we praise some leader or product instead of God. \nWords used in this way are “LYING WORDS.” Lying Words can bring great profits and power to some people. They can bring death to others. \nThere are seven kinds of Lying Words: \n1. Bandwagon \n2. Testimonial \n3. Glittering generalities \n4. Name-calling \n5. Plain folks \n6. Card-stacking \n7. Transfer \nHere they are, one by one: \n1. Bandwagon: Everybody is buying Jane’s soap. It takes away every kind of dirt. You should buy it too. All smart people use Jane’s soap. It’s strong and good.“Come on!” people say.“Everyone’s doing it.(Whatever it is.) Jump in with us and do it too. You’ll be alone if you don’t.” \n2. Testimonial: \"Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. He was the greatest American president. He used our wonderful shampoo. It made him look so tall! Buy it! You will look tall, too ” Here is a direct lie. We don’t know that clean hair ever freed a slave or made anyone look tall. \nProbably no one knows exactly how Mr. Lincoln cleaned his hair. We know he came from America’s“backwoods.” He might have used just water at times. Testimonial Lying Words say that an important person did something, therefore you should do it, too. Testimonials are common in TV advertisements.“Doctors say...” Which doctors? \n3. Glittering generalities: Vote for Betty Sloan. We all want justice, and fairness. She will bring them to our country.“Hope, Action, Change.” \nWhat are “hope, action, and change” really? Does she say what they are? Does she have people ready to make us agree with what she wants? What does she know about women 10 years from now? Watch when people say some good big thing will happen if you vote for a certain person or do a certain thing. Here are “glittering generalities.” They shine. They look bright and happy. \n4. Name calling: Don’t listen to what Joe says. He’s a---- . Or a---- . Or a wimp. What do these words mean? Don’t use them if you cannot say exactly what you mean or give examples with proofs that everyone can see. Name-calling can be powerful and dangerous. \n5. Plain folks: George is a simple person. He’s like you, me and everybody else. His kids play football next door after school. There’s nothing confusing about George. You don’t need to ask questions about what he says... \nAsk yourself: Are you one of the “plain folks”? You may have talent and dreams that no one knows about. Some plain folks around you may be jealous. They may want to keep you from having your dreams. George may have filled his soul with drink--or even hate. \n6. Card-stacking: In some card games, players try to win by collecting piles of cards. They may hide some to put them on their pile of cards later. They cheat. They may stack their ideas and thoughts also. They tell only those facts that make a person agree with them.","cbCaiqiVZb4ZrNXO","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqiVZb4ZrNXO","pdf",361624,1,16,"English","en",105,"# Literacy International: Lying Words\n## Good vs. evil words\n## Seven kinds of Lying Words\n## Examples of each type\n## Consequences of lying language","[{\"question\":\"What are “Lying Words” according to the booklet?\",\"answer\":\"“Lying Words” are words used dishonestly to mislead people.
