He can’t do anything.” Have you heard someone say that?  \nWhen Jesus was only twelve years old, He stood in the Jewish temple. Teachers of the law listened to Him.  \nWhen He became a man, He changed the world.“Just a child” may change the world.  \nThe Bible tells about many children who did something great. Who were some of these children?  \nMIRIAM-a clever, caring sister  \nExodus is the second book in the Bible. In Exodus Chapter 2 we read about Miriam.  \nMiriam was the older sister of Moses. You may remember that Moses was a very great leader of the Jews. He led them away from slavery in Egypt. He led them through the desert for forty years until they reached the Promised Land. Moses received the Ten Commandments from God. Then he gave them to the Jewish people.  \nBut without Miriam, things would have been very different for Moses.  \nThe Jews first came to Egypt because there was not enough food for them in their own country, Israel. They traveled to Egypt to find food. Then more and more of them came. They decided to stay in Egypt. After a while there were many, many Jews in Egypt. There were so many that the Egyptian kings were afraid of them. They made them work as slaves. They were mean to the Jews.  \nOne Egyptian king thought there were too many Jews in Egypt. He decided to kill all the Jewish baby boys. Then, he thought, after a while there wouldn’t be anymore Jews. Some of the Egyptians did not want to kill the baby boys. They disobeyed the king’s order. But the Jewish mothers were very much afraid.  \nThere was a Jewish woman named Jochebed. She loved God, and her whole family loved God. Jochebed had a baby boy. She decided to hide him and keep him quiet. But when he was three months old, she could not keep him quiet any longer.  \nWhat could she do? How could she keep him from being killed? She made a little basket for him and covered it with tar. The tar kept water from coming into the basket. She put the baby in the basket and placed it in the river. Miriam stood nearby to see what would happen to her baby brother.  \nThe king’s daughter came to the river to take a bath. She saw the basket there. She sent a servant girl to go get it. She opened the basket and saw the baby boy. The baby was crying. She felt sorry for him. She did not want to hurt him.“This is one of the Jewish babies,” she said.  \nThen Miriam asked the king’s daughter,“Do you want me to find a Jewish woman to nurse the baby for you?”“Yes,” she answered.  \nSo Miriam brought her own mother. The king’s daughter said,“Take this baby and nurse him for me. I will pay you.” So Jochebed was able to take care of her own baby! She knew the baby would be safe.  \nWhen the boy grew a little older, Jochebed took him to the king’s daughter. The king’s daughter adopted him as her own son. She gave him the name Moses. Later he learned that his people were slaves. God helped him to set them free.  \nMiriam did a good thing for her brother Moses. If she had not spoken to the king’s daughter, he would have been gone from his family. But because she spoke, that changed. He was able to spend the first two or three years of his life with his own mother, father, sister and brother.  \nMiriam was clever.
