I lived a long time ago.  \nOne day I was working with my friends Peter and Andrew, and my brother John and our father. We were catching fish to sell. We lived this way. Then the man named Jesus came by. He talked to us for a while and then said “Follow Me. I will make you fishers of men.” Why? How were we going to do that?  \nWe learned. We had to leave our boats and our father, but God somehow took care of them.  \nJesus told good stories. The poor people loved these stories. He didn’t just preach. He knew how to make people laugh and feel good. He touched them and made them well if they were sick.  \nIf they lost control of themselves, He could order demons out. Then they would be calm. Some were even dead and He made them live again.  \nOne day Jesus told me and Peter and John,“Let’s go up that mountain there.” We walked a long way and finally came to the top.  \nSuddenly He looked different. His face was like the sun. His clothes were white like lightning.  \nTwo men were with Him. Their clothes also were very bright. One man was Moses and the other one was Elijah. I knew them from what our Scriptures had taught me. They couldn’t be anybody else. I knew that Moses gave us laws to live by. Elijah told us all about false gods.  \nPeter often liked to speak without thinking. He said he wanted to stay up there.“I’ll build three shelters,” he told Jesus. One for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”  \nSuddenly a bright cloud came over them. A voice came out of the cloud. It said,“This is my beloved Son. I am pleased with Him. Listen to what He says and do it.”We were all terribly frightened and we fell on our faces. Jesus touched us and we could stand up. We weren’t afraid any more.  \nThen Moses and Elijah were gone. Jesus looked like us again.  \nBut I knew that He was different from us. He often heard God speaking to Him. God hadn’t said any of our friends were His special sons. And none of our friends could shine like the sun or make dead people walk!  \nWe left the mountain.  \nImmediately a man came up to us and begged Jesus for help. His boy would shake and shake. No one could stop it. The boy would fall anywhere, into fire or water. John, Peter and I had seen wonderful things on the mountain, but we couldn’t do anything for that boy.  \nJesus told us that our lives were wrong. He said that none of us had real faith. Then He told the demon to get out of the boy. The boy calmed down. Matthew 17 in the Bible tells about these things that happened.  \nWhere did we go from there? Jesus talked about how He was going to die. We could see that He had a strange power, like God. He pulled some money out of a fish’s mouth. He paid all our taxes with it. We wanted some of that power. We argued about who would be the greatest ones.  \nHe said we had to be humble like quiet children. We were to learn. We were to be His followers.  \nJesus didn’t want us to tell anyone about God’s holy light on the mountain. He said we had to wait until after He had died and left the grave. He didn’t want to make Himself great or special. He made us all see how He loved lost people and looked for them.  \nJesus came from the highest place with God in Heaven. Then He stepped far down. He took the lowest place He could take.
