It was late afternoon, and they were free from their classes. There the similarities ended, for Kesang was obviously an upperclassman while Atring was a newly arrived freshman. Since they came from the same hometown, Kesang felt a responsibility for the newcomer.“How did you like that science class I recommended to you?”he asked.  \n“Very, very good,” Atring replied.“We students were so surprised by some of the excellent equipment in the lab. And the professor made the course sound so interesting!”  \n“I’m glad you liked him. Some of the professors rush along too fast, but he makes the subject matter plain. Oh, I see that you have been to that barber I told you about. Did you have a hard time finding him?”  \n“No,” said Atring.“Your directions were very clear. Thanks very much!”  \n“Have you tried any of the buses yet?”  \nNo, I haven’t really needed one yet. I can walk most anywhere I want to go, and I didn’t want to spend the money, even though it isn’t very much.”  \nKesang laughed in a friendly way and said,“When I first came here, I got on a wrong bus, and it took me way out into the country.” At this point a waiter came with their food, and Kesang added,“This place has a good cook, and you can count on him. He keeps his kitchen clean. I know. I looked around.”  \n“I’m glad for your help,” Atring replied. “I’ll pass this on to some of the other freshmen. Some of them are so confused that they need all the help they can get.”  \nSome days later Atring looked for Kesang in his dormitory room, this time with an inquiry,“Where can I find a doctor? A friend of mine has a fever, and it is getting worse!”  \nKesang looked concerned and answered,“For small matters there is a clinic close by, but is he well enough to get up and go anywhere? I have a doctor that I have confidence in because of what he has done for some of my classmates. He really cares. In fact, he even would come to see your friend if he needs it.”  \nSo Kesang again met a need. The doctor kindly came and took care of the sick student, and in the doctor’s good hands he soon was well.  \nWhen Atring later commented to Kesang that he was so helpful, Kesang replied,“God who made us has given us all special gifts which we need to develop and also use. That is one way we can be helpful. Another way we can help is to know where to send someone with a special need. So we all can be on the lookout for gifted people to whom we can direct people. After all, if a person needs a mechanic, he needs a good mechanic. If a person wants a storeroom added to his house, he needs a good builder.”  \n“And I guess you would say that if you want to learn how to do something, you should find a good teacher,”Atring said.  \n“Exactly!” was the answer.  \n“And who was the good teacher who taught you? I’d like to know.”  \nKesang smiled a broad smile and said, ‘‘Well, first of all it was a little old woman. Then it was God’s Book that she gave me a copy of.
