You must keep the copyright and credits for authors, illustrators, etc.  \nPAUL KEEPS GOD’S FIRST COMMANDMENT  \nPaul was a man who loved God’s Word and tried his best to obey every part of it. Much of what he had read of what God has said, he had learned by heart and could repeat. He knew God’s Ten Commandments and tried to keep them. He knew the First Commandment where God says,“I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods.”  \nThen Paul learned from Jesus that he could not keep the commandments by his own work. He learned that Jesus had said,“Without me you can do nothing.”Then he understood that we need God’s help us to keep the Commandments. God helps us to live the right way. We need his help.  \nPaul came to the great city of Athens, and he was waiting for his friends to arrive. While he was waiting, he walked around the streets. Everywhere he saw temples and idols where people bowed down and worshiped. He was sorry to see so many people who did not know who God was or his son Jesus, the Savior. Paul began to tell people about God whom he knew. Some of them said,“Come and tell us more!”  \nHe was glad for the opportunity. He said,“You people are very religious. I can see that by your many idols. However, I saw one altar with no idol. On it was written,‘To the unknown God’. Let me tell you about who that unknown God is, so you can know him.  \n“This God who made heaven and earth as well as all of us is too great to live in any temple we could build. And he has so much that he does not need any offering we could give him. God who creates everything plans where we live and when we live.  \n“Some of your poets have said,‘We are his children’. Now, since we are his children, and he is alive like us, he is not an idol. We should get to know him. He wants us to know him. He has already spoken to us, telling us to come back to him. And God has already sent Jesus to judge and forgive us, proving himself by dying for our sins and coming alive again.”  \nThe people listening were divided. Some did not believe. Others wanted to hear more. So these followed Paul. He told them how God so loves people that he gave us Jesus to save us. And there were those in Athens who came to know God that day through learning about Jesus, God’s Son, the Savior. Paul knew that Jesus had said,“I am the Way, the Truth, the Life, no one comes to God the Father except by me. . . . I and the Father are One.”  \nJesus loves the Commandments, and he says,“Keep my Commandments.” That is right and proper for the Commander to give us his commands. And Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords. But the power to keep the commands comes from God’s love which moves us to love him in return. It is possible to keep commands if they are what we most want to do. And when we get to know God he is so wonderful that we want to please him. We please him when we follow and serve only him, our one and only God.  \n(Exodus 20:2,3; Acts 17:16-34; John 15:5; 14:6,15;  \n17:21,22)  \nDANIEL’S FRIENDS KEEP THE SECOND  \nCOMMANDMENT  \nDaniel and his three friends had been brought up knowing and loving God. Then all four of them were forced to leave their homes and go to a far country, Babylon, where the king and people did not know God. These people made and worshiped images they had made of wood or stone.
