Whether it is the going and coming of the birds in the air, or the movement of whales that weigh more than twenty elephants, our God guides them when and where to go. God is the one who chose how every animal and bird should look, and even that the male and female of a certain bird should have different colors.  \nIs this surprising? Yes, it is, but our God is the God of surprises as well as normal everyday life. As He told Job,“Everything under the heavens belongs to me.”(41: 11) And He goes beyond the creating of everything, to take constant, everyday care of his creation.  \nWhy is this important for us to know? Well, we are part of His creation, and the more aware we are of what our God is like, the better we will want to follow His leading us. We have a part in His world and we need to know what He wants us to do with our lives.  \nThe movement of the birds of the sky and the fish of the seas is not just a matter of instinct (nature) . When we ask who controls the instinct, the answer is that it is God Himself. When He showed to a man named Job the great difference between the Creator and the creation, God said to Job,“Does the hawk fly by your wisdom and spread his wings toward the south? Does the eagle soar at your command?”(Job 39:26, 27) Of course not! We are not able to control wild creatures, but God certainly is.  \nLet’s think about how wonderful it is that the birds and whales were made by God for the things He gives them to do. What great strength they have, even the hummingbird, which can travel hundreds of miles without stopping! And birds can travel more easily than us, not having any bags to carry or tickets to buy! They just start off when God tells them it is time, and go far, far away to the places God has ready for them to go to.  \nHow wonderful that God not only leads us, but that He also helps with our needs at home and away. He showed this to Job, saying,“Who provides food for the raven when its young birds cry out to God for lack of food?”(38:41)  \nWhat He was telling Job is that God, the Creator, provides not only for the tiny birds as they look to Him but also for the grown raven in its search for food for its family.  \nGod also provides for those who are serving Him at home and in far-away countries. He may provide through churches and the followers of Christ, or through mighty acts.  \nWe are never alone as we serve God. He made this clear to Job, saying,“Do you have an arm like God’sand can your voice thunder like His?!”(40:9)  \nWe serve God who speaks to us on the first page of the Bible as well as the last page and all the way through. We have not only His voice (His written word), but also His strong arm helping us.  \nBecause of God’s voice and strong arm Job finally said of God,“Now my eyes have seen you, and I ... repent.”(42:5) To repent is to be sorry for the way you have acted, thought, or spoken, and to want to change to bethe way God wants you to be.  \nThrough our Lord’s being with us and His mighty daily acts we “see” and know Him as our Savior and Shepherd.
