They do not look quite real.  \nThe sign stands higher than most trucks. It has heavy black letters on it. They say: “A real man cares for his family.” Leaders beg for “real” men and strong families.  \nThis country has had a rough time with good leadership but change has come. There is hope in the air for fair laws and a better life for everyone. People begin to work hard together in hope. The country is on its way up.  \nAnother country is on its way down. Its policemen do not receive enough pay. There are not enough of them. Streets are not safe.  \n“Do you know who your Father is?” asks a new pastor speaking to a young man in a park. He wants the young man to see God as a good father. Loud laughter comes from men and women under a tree. They say,“Nobody around here knows who their dad is.”  \nDuring past years here, fathers have prayed and worked hard together in farms and factories. The country was happy and wealthy then. Its people became proud. They thought that “faith in God” was just for old, tired, or sick people. All kinds of trade have become slow. Even many roofs are not straight. Some walls are falling and a few highways are not even safe for travel.  \nThese two countries are a country going up and a country going down. There are different kinds of countries and different kinds of fathers.  \nThe Bible tells about some fathers. God told Abram in Genesis to give up his way of life. He was to get up, take everything and go away. To go where? God would not tell him. But God did promise to lead Abram.  \nGod told Abram his children would be as many as the stars in the sky. But Abram and his wife were too old to have children. And they would have to walk about 300 miles through a burning desert.  \nIn time, Abram’s son was born. God changed Abram’s name to Abraham. Abraham means “father of many nations.”  \nThen the Lord told Abraham to go to a far place and kill his son as a sacrifice. Why? The command made no sense. Abraham loved his son very much. But Abraham took the boy, found the place and held his sword up in the air. He was ready.  \nBut before that sword fell, God sent an animal to take the place of Abraham’s son. (Genesis 22:11-13) Abraham trusted that God would bring good out of Abraham obeying Him. This is what good fathers do.  \nMany Bible men and women lived by faith... and some didn’t. God put stories in the Bible to teach us about fathers. Who had faith? The father of Moses who was a faithful support to Moses’mother in Egypt? Yes. Elkanah who was a faithful support to his wife Hannah who could not have children? Yes (I Samuel Chapter l) Joseph taking his wife Mary and child Jesus out of danger? Yes. (Matthew 2:13 to 15)  \nThere was a man named Gideon. He broke down some idols. He did it at night so no one would see him. The next day the people wanted to kill him. But Gideon’s father was strong. He told the people that a god who could not defend himself was no god at all. By saying this, he saved Gideon’s life. (Judges 6)  \nBut some Bible fathers were not strong. Jacob gave his favorite son Joseph a “coat of many colors.” Joseph’s brothers hated Joseph because of this. (Genesis 37:3) Was the father fair?
