He asked people for money. They gave him a lot, and in time he became rich. But he and his wife used the money only for themselves.  \nHis wife had a little dog. He was so cute! She bought a doghouse and put special fans inside. This is the first dog in our stories. The little dog was warm in winter and cool in summer. But some poor people outside became very sick during bad weather.  \nThe second man never asked for money. His name was George Mueller. He lived where many people didn’t have enough food. They also suffered from heat and cold. Many boys and girls had no parents. He found places for them to sleep out of the heat and cold.  \nOver the years, he gave meals to thousands of homeless children.  \nOne time, he was sitting with some of the children. Their food was gone. There was nothing to eat. They praised God and thanked Him anyway. Then someone knocked at their door with food. They had not called him, but he brought all the food they needed.  \nLike the first preacher, he reached many people. Both were preachers,“God’s servants.” But how did they serve God? The first one really did not understand what Jesus and His cross meant. The second one did understand. He gave his life for what Jesus taught.  \nYou can see crosses in many places:  \n-Around a woman’s neck  \n-Dangling from her ears maybe  \n-By the side of a highway, where someone was killed  \n-On top of a church building, with gold crosses inside  \n-On Christian graves.  \nThese crosses all tell of our hope in Christ.  \nPeople may use these crosses without even caring about what they could mean.  \nThere are some other crosses that you can’t see. They may have heavy meaning. These crosses are ways that certain people have to suffer, while others don’t have to suffer. Here are some people that carry these crosses:  \n-A small high school boy with a high voice; larger laughing boys at him  \n-A young person with a “foreign accent” who cannot find a good job  \n-A worker or student at parties, who can’t understand the jokes  \n-Someone in a marriage with no real love or fun  \n-An elderly man who worked too hard for his company for 40 years and lost all his friends  \n-A father knowing that police could carry off his family in the night  \n-A grandmother who gets no sleep because of noises or pain  \n-A young man or woman seeing friends shot in someone else’s war  \n-Thousands of people sold into slavery  \n-Millions of people who go to bed hungry.  \nOne student had some crosses of his own--little problems. He wanted to ask God about them. They looked huge to him. He couldn’t find a girlfriend. His tests were too hard. His father did everything well and he couldn’t. He was scared most of the time. He prayed and thought about Psalm 90- “From everlasting to everlasting Thou art God.” He felt he should go up into the mountains and sleep alone under some tall pine trees. And there he learned for himself about the greatest Cross of all. A voice came into his mind.“Out in the stars I stand on a Cross. I am Jesus. I am Lord. But the nails are there. Every fear, every anger or pride drives the nails in deeper. You have done no heavy sin, but you drive them in.
