Johnson investigates disproportionate material-need insecurity among diverse, rural Texan LGBTQ+ adults and poses suggestions for investigating LGBTQ+ populations in public datasets. The last two papers investigate barriers to social support and adequate services among LGBTQ+ older adults in rural areas. Perone and Zhou highlight the need for culturally-informed social services and increased need for LGBTQ+ gathering spaces. Bietsch further affirms these findings in rural New England, suggesting LGBTQ+ older adults have disproportionate access to social support and culturally-responsive healthcare. This symposium investigates LGBTQ+ well-being across rural contexts within the United States and offers strategies to promote well-being among adult and aging LGBTQ+ populations. Strategies for researching LGBTQ+ topics and developing interventions in rural areas are also discussed. \n- \n- \n- \n- \n-","cbCaiphtkUbRsKI3","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiphtkUbRsKI3","pdf",930460,"English","# Session 4165 (Symposium)\n## Abstract citation ID: igaf122.1728\n## Chair: Bryce Van Vleet\n## Key findings across LGBTQ+ rural aging contexts\n## Strategies for promotion and intervention development","[{\"question\":\"What core problem does the symposium address for LGBTQ+ aging adults in rural US settings?\",\"answer\":\"It addresses disproportionately poor well-being outcomes and additional structural challenges faced by LGBTQ+ adults in rural communities.\"},{\"question\":\"How do the symposium’s findings relate social support to mental health outcomes?\",\"answer\":\"The symposium reports that social support does not buffer the effects of discrimination on mental health.\"},{\"question\":\"What types of solutions or strategies are emphasized to promote LGBTQ+ well-being?\",\"answer\":\"The symposium highlights culturally informed social services, increased LGBTQ+ gathering spaces, culturally responsive healthcare, and research strategies to develop interventions in rural areas.\"}]","LGBTQ+ WELL-BEING IN RURAL US - Symposium Session 4165 - Barriers and Promotion Opportunities | PDF",1790640974]
