Mind maps, as visual learning tools, have been widely recognised for enhancing students’ critical thinking, vocabulary acquisition, reading comprehension, and writing skills. This study follows the PRISMA framework to analyse research from various academic databases, including Mendeley, PubMed, Taylor & Francis, and Scopus, focusing on studies published between 2020 and 2024. The results indicate that mind maps facilitate knowledge retention, foster deeper conceptual understanding, and support collaborative learning. Additionally, when integrated with technology, digital mind maps enhance interactivity and student engagement in language learning. However, challenges such as teacher readiness and student adaptation to visual learning strategies remain significant concerns. The findings highlight the pedagogical implications of mind maps in ELT and recommend further exploration of their integration into digital learning environments.  \nKeywords: Critical Thinking, Digital Tools, English Language Teaching, Mind Maps, Visual Learning,  \nINTRODUCTION  \nEducators continuously seek innovative methods to enhance learning effectiveness in the everevolving English Language Teaching (ELT) field. One such method that has garnered increasing attention is mind maps. Mind maps, as a visual representation of ideas , facilitate knowledge organisation, promote critical thinking, and enhance language acquisition. Their application in ELT has been explored in various contexts, from vocabulary enrichment to writing development, demonstrating their versatility in supporting language learners. However, despite their potential, the systematic impact of mind maps in ELT remains an area that requires further exploration.  \nMind mapping is gaining increasing attention in education as an effective method to enhance critical thinking skills and creativity. In the context of English language learning, the use of mind maps helps students connect linguistic concepts more systematically and deeply. Mind maps allow students to organise information better through a clear hierarchical structure, thus strengthening their memory and understanding of the material studied. (Sari et al., 2021)Existing research shows that mind maps benefit individuals and can also be used in collaborative learning, where students collaborate to create concept maps to understand a topic more effectively. (Rosba et al., 2021) .  \nPrevious studies have shown that using mind maps in English language learning can help students remember vocabulary and understand reading better. Mind maps provide a visual structure that makes it easier for students to connect different concepts, thus increasing their absorption of the subject matter. (Feng et al., 2023)In addition, mind maps have been shown to improve the cohesion and coherence of students' texts when applied to writing activities. (Yan et al., 2022)Although these benefits have been widely reported, systematic studies are needed to summarise and evaluate the effectiveness of mind maps in various aspects of English language learning.
