Logsdon.","Along  \n# LEONIA LIFE\n\nLIFE’SWAY  \nBy Mildred de Bary  \nWhile Leonia danced and  \nNORTH JERSEY LIFE  \n赣ned and nibbled its way  \nESTABLISHED 1922  \nwith greetings through the                                26TH YEAR—50TH WEEK                          LEONIA,N,J.THURSDAY,JANUARY 6,1949                  FIVE CENTS PER COPY.  \nbolidays,it was,for the most  \nteart,all unconscious of a  \nDr.Logston Made  \ngnificant figure in its midst.  \nAssistant Head  \nThere is no way to break it  \nently,so here it is,blurted  \nColumbia Library  \nbut as stark,cold fact:Leonia  \nhad as a holiday visitor a man  \nDr.Richard H.Logsdon,181  \n,vho ran for office without fear  \nGlenwood avenue,Leonia,New  \nDr favor,who conducted his  \nJersey has been named AssociateDirector of the Columbia Univers-  \ncampaign and general election  \nity Libraries.Prior to Joining the  \ntor only $42 out of pocket,and  \nColumbia staff in 1947 as Asalst-  \nwho told the truth as he saw  \nIt.Yet he gained forty five  \nthousand votes in his district  \nwhen he ran for Congress  \nagainst a long-entrenched ma-  \nchine which polled 60,000.  \nHe was the kind of candi-  \ndate we all dream about:in-  \ntelligent,judicial,fearlessly  \nhonest;and he did not give an  \ninch from his ideals.  \nLeonian's know him quite  \nwell.He is Dr.Preston Slon-  \nson of Ann Arbor,faculty oí  \nthe University of Michigan  \n(Foreign Affairs his particular  \nconcern).He has visited  \nthrough the years at the E.E     .      \nVann home.His wife is Eliz-  \nDR.R.H.LOGSDON  \nabeth Vann's sister.He is also  \nnative New Yorker whose  \nant Director of Technieal Servicea,  \nDr.Logsdon served as Asitant DI-  \nparents were both widely  \nrector of the Veterans Administra-  \ntion Library Service,Chief LIbrar-  \nian of the U.s.Office of Educa-  \ntion,and in ssveral University and  \nCollege positions.  \nDr.Logadon is a graduate of  \nWestern Reserve University and  \nof the University of Chacago Grad-  \nuate Library School.He is on the  \nAmerican Library Assn.Board of  \nEdueation for Librarianship and  \nthe Fourth Activitles Committee  \ncovering the Associaticn's organl-  \nzation and services,and of the  \nPublications Committee of the AB-  \nsociation of College and Research  \nLibraries.  \ninstallee!yesterday as Girl Scour  \nCommissioner in Leonia.She sue-  \nceeGs Mrs.David Jones who a2-  \nsumed the duties of head of Girl  \nScouting after the resignation  \nMrs.David Linn.  \nThe installation of the new com-  \nmissloner took place at the annual  \nScout Council.This year it wa  \nknown in civic affairs and  \npublic life.  \nThis professor-polltician  \naalls himself a mugwump in  \npolitics.Has a Republican  \nbackground by inheritance and  \npractice until recent years,but  \nalways an independent voter.  \nThey prevailed upon him,out  \nin Michigan,to run for Con-  \ngress on the Democratic ticket.  \nOf course his campaign was  \nmarked by many onusua  \nthings,strictly unconvention-  \nal as politics and campaigns  \ngo.  \nHis campaign manager was  \na big industrialist who had to  \nanwer the cmHl of business znd  \ngo to Europe and South Africa  \nduring the campaign,but who  \ncontributed generously to the  \nDemocratic cause.There were  \ncampaign managers a-plenty  \nafter that,but Dr.Slcsson  \nmanaged to win out on some  \nof his firmest convictions aft-  \ner he got the feel of politics,  \nand upheld and aided by his  \nwife,who would be no mean  \ncandidate for office herself.Wherever Dr.Slosson spoke  \nhe took the bull by the horns.  \nHe told labor that there would  \nhave to be/some definite reg  \nulations in place of the Taft-  \nHartley Act and he named  \nthem.He told farmers,of  \nwhom there are many'in  \nMichigan,that he believed in  \ncontrols but they would have  \nto be much lower;that he  \nthought farmers wculd rather  \noperate on even keel than  \nwith high prices that broke  \nthe consumer's ba ck and  \nbrought depressions.It was  \nthat way with every group.  \n\"Candidates often tell the  \ntruth\"Dr.Slosson said,\"But  \nnot the whole truth.","cbCaicxvQHiQDNB5","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaicxvQHiQDNB5","pdf",10280569,1,"English","en",105,"# LEONIA LIFE\n## Local appointments and civic updates\n## Physical medicine program coordination","[{\"question\":\"What local role is Dr. Robert C.
