It operates on mutual benefit/ no-profit- no- loss, with surplus distributed among members instead of external shareholders.  \no Objective: Provide affordable and accessible life insurance, especially to rural and underserved populations (farmers, women, SHGs) . Premiums are lower, proposed to be routed through Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) functioning as Common Service Centres (CSCs).  \no Initiative by: Ministry of Cooperation (created in 2021; slogan “Sahakar se samriddhi”)  \no Coverage: Intended to cover India’s 8.5 lakhs cooperative societies and more than 30 crore members.  \no Regulator: Insurance and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).  \no Example: IFFCO- Tokyo General Insurance Company is a successful cooperative-linked insurer in thenon-life/ general insurance sector.  \no Constitutional Backing: 97th Amendment Act, 2011. Added Article 43B- promotion of cooperative societies. Inserted Part IX-B (Articles 243ZH-243ZT)  \no Cooperatives are a state subject (entry 32); Union ministry’s role is limited to policy making.
