Villagers gather at the temple of Baghbhairav in shared grief, recounting kidnappings and the chaos left behind. Elders and parents describe how Kwan overwhelms families while they sleep, prompting desperate attempts to protect homes and children.","The Lattice Window Midesh Maharjan
didibahini
Many years ago, the city of Kathmandu was known as Kantipur. It contained a small village called Kipu. Today, Kipu is known as Kirtipur.
Kipu was a quiet and beautiful village. Farmers enjoyed growing food and raising animals. Merchants bought and sold things, carpenters and artisans worked with wood, and masons built with brick and stone . Mothers, in their free time, enjoyed weaving Newari dresses . And children were happy in their own world.
2
Then one day, a ghost appeared in Kipu. It looked like a human skeleton. It was as tall asa two-storied building. It walked through the night carrying a big sack. The villagers called the ghost Kwan .
Kwan stole children and carried them away in his sack. Since almost all the houses in Kipu had big windows, it was easy for Kwan to put his hands through the open window and grab small children .
*Kwan means skeleton
The people of Kipu gathered in front of the big temple of Baghbhairav. The people were miserable because Kwan was taking their children .
”How can we fight this ghost?” they asked one another.
The oldest man in the crowd, Shukram Baje, listened to everyone’s problems.*Baje means grandfather</ small>
5
”Tarikaji’s eight-year-old daughter was taken yesterday,” a villager named Babukaji said.“It has not even been a
week since Chirimaicha’s son was kidnapped,” a villager named Tuyukaji added.
”Seven children have been taken from our village so far,” said Tarikaji, bursting into tears.”This is a terrible tragedy!” Shukram Baje said. He looked toward the sky and folded his hands.
7
Chirimaicha spoke to the old man .”Baje, I tried my best to grab my son tight and pull him towards me . But Kwan was too strong forme . He snatched my son and put him in his sack.”
”Our daughter was sleeping between us . We were very tired from working in the fields all day. We fell asleep quickly and were in a deep slumber. We didn’t wake up even when Kwan stole our darling daughter,” Tarikaji said, tears streaming down his cheeks.
”He tried to push his hand through my window as well,” said a villager named Balkaji.
“But I had a red-hot rod from the fireplace ready. I burned Kwan’s hand. He hasn’t dared to come near my house since that day.”","cbCaisGAUToCzWPb","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaisGAUToCzWPb","pdf",4544055,3,26,"English","en",105,"# Village Life in Kipu
## The Ghost Appears
# The Kidnappings
## Villagers Gather at Baghbhairav
# Family Stories of Loss
## Attempts to Defend Homes","[{"question":"What is the ghost called, and what does it mean?","answer":"The ghost is called Kwan, and Kwan means skeleton in the story’s note."},{"question":"How does Kwan steal children from the village?","answer":"Kwan walks through the night carrying a big sack and reaches into houses through the open big windows to grab small children."},{"question":"What do the villagers do after multiple children are taken?","answer":"The villagers gather in front of the big temple of Baghbhairav, share details of the kidnappings, and ask how they can fight the ghost."}]",1783583832,40
"ok
"lattice-window","",{"@graph":35,"@context":84},[36,52,67],{"@type":37
BreadcrumbList",[39,43,47,49
@type":42
https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem
@type":42
https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2
@type":42
https://docshare.wps.com/document/story-novel/
@type":42
https://docshare.wps.com/document/lattice-window/50669/",4
@type":53
"DigitalDocument
@type":55},"Person
@type":58},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-07-17","2026-07-09",true,{"@type":64
InteractionCounter",{"@type":66},"ViewAction",{"@type":68
FAQPage",[70,76,80
@type":72
What is the ghost called, and what does it mean?","Question
@type":75},"The ghost is called Kwan, and Kwan means skeleton in the story’s note.","Answer
@type":72
How does Kwan steal children from the village?
@type":75},"Kwan walks through the night carrying a big sack and reaches into houses through the open big windows to grab small children.
@type":72
What do the villagers do after multiple children are taken?
@type":75},"The villagers gather in front of the big temple of Baghbhairav, share details of the kidnappings, and ask how they can fight the ghost.","https://schema.org
"article
index,follow
[92,95,99,103,108,113,117,122,127,130,134
90,"story-novel
"Literature",80,"literature
"Exam",70,"exam
5,"Comic",60,"comic
6,"Technology",50,"technology
7,"Healthcare","healthcare
8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report
9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality
"World Cup","world-cup
10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle
19,"General","general"]
