The bridge alignment has a circular curve with superelevation, nonprismatic variation of cross-section properties, and post-tensioned tendons. \nThe final model is shown below. \nSide View \nPlan View \nThis training manual is written for LARSA 4D Version 7.5. \nLARSA 4D Balanced Cantilever Problem \nLARSA 4D Balanced Cantilever Problem \nCross-Section Properties \nIn this section we will set up the non-prismatic cross-section of the girder using: \n• An existing shape template \n• Parameter formulas \n• The member reference line \n• Piecewise linear variation of depth along the girder length using the Formula Helper \nThe cross-section of this model is a box girder 17 meters wide with variable depth from roughly 5 meters at the pier to 3 meters mid-span. Cross-section dimensions have been provided in SI units. \nThe cross-section will be modeled in LARSA Section Composer. Section Composer provides a number of parametric templates of common shapes which can be resized quickly to the design specifications by entering the values of parameters such as depth, flange thickness, etc. Additionally, these parametric templates allow parameters to be specified as formulas, which provides the basis of creating nonprismatic variation. \nThe final section in Section Composer is shown below: \nLARSA Section Composer \nThe design specification provided is given in the next figure. \nLARSA 4D Balanced Cantilever Problem \nCross-Section Design Specification \nCross-Section Dimensions \n Start LARSA Section Composer. \n Begin by setting the units of the cross-section to milimeters using Section → Units . \nSection Units \nThis need not be the same unit as the units that will be used in LARSA 4D for setting up bridge geometry. \n Then rename the section to “Box Girder” using Section → Rename . \nLARSA 4D Balanced Cantilever Problem \n Open Shape → Insert Custom Shape and find “Single Cell Box Girder Type 3” in the Box Girders category. \nThe parameters of this shape template can be changed by the user. As you click on each parameter, a decription of the parameter is shown below the table. Additionally, the preview on the right shows dimension lines for the parameters to indicate their meaning. You can zoom and pan the preview to see more detail. \nAlthough the design specification has provided many of the values for these parameters, it ","cbCaijJn05Vqnvra","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijJn05Vqnvra","pdf",2591965,63,"English","en",105,"# Introduction\n## Cross-Section Properties\n## Cross-Section Dimensions\n## Nonprismatic Variation\n## Verification of Properties\n## Properties\n## Material Properties\n## Sections\n## Bridge Geometry\n## Bridge Alignment\n## Joints\n## Members\n## Integrity Check\n## Staged Construction\n## About LARSA 4D’s Staged Construction Analysis\n## Segment Groups\n## Construction Stages\n## Defining Tendons\n## Tendon Geometry\n## Tendon Construction Activities\n## Time-Dependent Analysis\n## Casting Day\n## Analysis Options\n## Results: Stresses\n## Graphics\n## Spreadsheets\n## Graphs\n## Results: Tendons\n## Code Check","[{\"question\":\"What bridge configuration does the training manual analyze?\",\"answer\":\"It analyzes a balanced cantilever concrete box girder bridge with circular-curve alignment, superelevation, nonprismatic cross-section variation, and post-tensioned tendons.\"},{\"question\":\"How are nonprismatic cross-section properties defined in LARSA 4D?\",\"answer\":\"Using Section Composer with an existing shape template, parameter formulas, the member reference line, and piecewise linear depth variation along the girder length via the Formula Helper.\"},{\"question\":\"Why is trigonometry used when setting the box web parameters?\",\"answer\":\"Because the design specification provides web thickness in one orientation while the model requires a different thickness definition; trigonometric conversion and angle calculation ensure parameters like web angle and parallel-to-flange thickness are consistent.\"}]","LARSA 4D Balanced Cantilever Problem - Training Manual - Finite Element Analysis and Design Software | PDF",1793777672,159,{"code":4,"msg":82,"data":83},"ok",{"site_id":75,"language":74,"slug":84,"title":65,"keywords":85,"description":66,"schema_data":86,"social_meta":139,"head_meta":141,"extra_data":143,"updated_unix":79},"larsa-4d-balanced-cantilever-problem-training-manual-finite-element-analysis-and-design-software","",{"@graph":87,"@context":138},[88,102,121],{"@type":89,"itemListElement":90},"BreadcrumbList",[91,95,97,100],{"item":92,"name":93,"@type":94,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":96,"name":9,"@type":94,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":98,"name":30,"@type":94,"position":99},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/technology/",3,{"item":101,"name":65,"@type":94,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/larsa-4d-balanced-cantilever-problem-training-manual-finite-element-analysis-and-design-software/677135/",{"url":101,"name":65,"@type":103,"image":104,"author":109,"headline":65,"publisher":111,"fileFormat":114,"inLanguage":74,"description":66,"dateModified":115,"datePublished":115,"encodingFormat":114,"isAccessibleForFree":116,"interactionStatistic":117},"DigitalDocument",{"url":105,"@type":106,"width":107,"height":108},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/larsa-4d-balanced-cantilever-problem-training-manual-finite-element-analysis-and-design-software/677135.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":63,"@type":110},"Person",{"url":92,"name":112,"@type":113},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-11-04",true,{"@type":118,"interactionType":119,"userInteractionCount":4},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":120},"ViewAction",{"@type":122,"mainEntity":123},"FAQPage",[124,130,134],{"name":125,"@type":126,"acceptedAnswer":127},"What bridge configuration does the training manual analyze?","Question",{"text":128,"@type":129},"It analyzes a balanced cantilever concrete box girder bridge with circular-curve alignment, superelevation, nonprismatic cross-section variation, and post-tensioned tendons.","Answer",{"name":131,"@type":126,"acceptedAnswer":132},"How are nonprismatic cross-section properties defined in LARSA 4D?",{"text":133,"@type":129},"Using Section Composer with an existing shape template, parameter formulas, the member reference line, and piecewise linear depth variation along the girder length via the Formula Helper.",{"name":135,"@type":126,"acceptedAnswer":136},"Why is trigonometry used when setting the box web parameters?",{"text":137,"@type":129},"Because the design specification provides web thickness in one orientation while the model requires a different thickness definition; trigonometric conversion and angle calculation ensure parameters like web angle and parallel-to-flange thickness are consistent.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":101,"og:type":140,"og:title":65,"og:site_name":112,"og:description":66},"article",{"robots":142,"canonical":101},"index,follow",{"doc_id":61,"site_id":75}]
