It also defines accepted test options and component score thresholds, rules for combining retest writings, and validity periods for test results.","| Policy: Language Requirements | Policy Number: 1.5 |\n| --- | --- |\n| Policy Type: Registration and Practice | Date Approved: March 24, 2025 |\n\nLanguage Requirements Policy  \nPurpose  \nThe objective of this policy is to provide applicants with information on the English language proficiency requirements set by the council.  \nPolicy  \nThe CMLPSK (SSMLT) requires that applicants demonstrate English language proficiency, per the Regulatory Bylaws, which state:  \n4 (1) All applicants for admission to membership in practicing and provisional practicing membership categories must:  \n(a) meet the English language requirement approved by the council;  \nAuthority  \nThe Medical Laboratory Technologists Act, 1995 The Regulatory Bylaws  \nProcedure  \nApplicants applying to be registered with the college can demonstrate English language proficiency in one or more of the ways prescribed in this policy.  \nEDUCATION  \n• The applicant graduated from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program in Canada, and the language of instruction, including the language used in any clinical portion, was English. Official transcripts are required.  \nREGISTRATION & LICENSURE STATUS  \n• The applicant is currently registered or has been registered in the previous two years as a regulated MLT in another Canadian jurisdiction and has satisfied that jurisdiction’s English language proficiency requirements. Letter(s) of standing is required.  \nPRACTICE EXPERIENCE  \n• The applicant is working or worked within the previous two years as a MLT in a nonregulated jurisdiction in Canada, where service and the primary language of the practice setting was English.
