Some sectors may lose out, while others may benefit.  \n􀀁 Sectors vulnerable to climate change require investment now to adapt. These costs are expected to be manageable. Smart investments can improve water and energy security, transport links, and agricultural productivity.  \n􀀁 More investment is needed to reach the government’s goal of net zero emissions by 2050.  \n􀀁 To fill additional climate-related funding gaps, the Kyrgyz Republic can facilitate green investments from both the public and private sectors.  \nKyrgyz Republic  \nPivoting to  \nProductivity-Led Growth  \nMaintaining High Growth through Productivity-Enhancing Reforms: The Path to Upper-Middle Income Status  \n􀀁 The economy grew by 9% between 2022 and 2024, but much of this growth came from short-term factors.  \n􀀁 Real GDP growth per person rose by only 2.5%, slower than in other countries, because of high population growth.  \n􀀁 Growth has shifted from being driven by productivity in the 2010s to being driven mainly by investment, with less contribution from skills and efficiency.  \n􀀁 Much of the growth comes from low-value services, gold mining, and consumption supported by remittances.  \n􀀁 To maintain current growth of 9% a year, the country needs to enhance economic productivity.  \n􀀁 Productivity can be boosted by accelerating institutional and structural reforms to address policy-related weaknesses in the business environment and in governance.  \nThe Kyrgyz Republic Can Capitalize on Its Natural Endowment and Grow From Mountain Country Into Mountain Economy  \n􀀁 Over the past 20 years, mining has driven most of the country’s growth, but it has also used up natural resources, damaged the environment, and reduced people’s quality of life.  \n􀀁 To ensure long-term growth, the Kyrgyz Republic needs to better manage its natural resources—especially water and pasturelands, which have been degraded by inefficient use.
