The museum displays around 50 antique weapons, spanning practical battlefield muskets to elaborately engraved showpieces, largely dating from the late Edo period. The exhibit explains how firearms arrived from Europe in the mid-sixteenth century and how Kunitomo’s gunsmiths shaped warfare and supply for government armories for centuries. It also highlights Kunitomo Ikkansai’s inventions, including projection mirrors and an early Japanese reflective telescope, along with related astronomical drawings.","Kunitomo Gun Museum \nThe Kunitomo Gun Museum is a place to explore Nagahama’s history as one of Japan’s earliest centers of firearms production. About 50 antique weapons are on display, most of which date to the late Edo period (1603–1867) . The weapons in its collection range from practical battlefield muskets to ornately engraved showpieces. \nFirearms were introduced to Japan from Europe in the mid-sixteenth century, and they soon played a pivotal role in warfare. Kunitomo, part ofwhat is now the city of Nagahama, quickly established a reputation for its gunsmiths. By the seventeenth century, some 500 firearms manufacturers lived and worked in Kunitomo, and the area continued to supply government armories for the next 200 years. \nA section of the museum is dedicated to the life and work ofKunitomo Ikkansai (1778– 1840), a gunsmith and inventor who is sometimes called “the Da Vinci of the Edo period.”Ikkansai’s work extended beyond firearms to include projection mirrors and the first Japanese-made reflective telescope, which he used to observe the surfaces ofthe sun and moon. Some of Ikkansai’s astronomical drawings and inventions are on display at the museum.","cbCaibCbKqW2ADJ4","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibCbKqW2ADJ4","pdf",125412,1,"English","en",105,"# Kunitomo Gun Museum Overview\n## Antique Weapons Collection\n## Firearms in Japan and Kunitomo’s Role\n## Kunitomo Ikkansai’s Life and Inventions","[{\"question\":\"How many antique weapons are displayed at the Kunitomo Gun Museum?\",\"answer\":\"About 50 antique weapons are on display, mostly dating from the late Edo period.\"},{\"question\":\"What time period do many of the museum’s weapons come from?\",\"answer\":\"Most weapons in the collection date to the late Edo period (1603–1867).\"},{\"question\":\"What did Kunitomo Ikkansai invent besides firearms?\",\"answer\":\"Ikkansai’s work included projection mirrors and the first Japanese-made reflective telescope, which he used for astronomical observation.\"}]","Kunitomo Gun Museum - Explore Nagahama’s Firearms History | PDF",1787574407,{"code":4,"msg":29,"data":30},"ok",{"site_id":23,"language":22,"slug":31,"title":13,"keywords":32,"description":14,"schema_data":33,"social_meta":84,"head_meta":86,"extra_data":88,"updated_unix":27},"kunitomo-gun-museum-explore-nagahamas-firearms-history","",{"@graph":34,"@context":83},[35,51,66],{"@type":36,"itemListElement":37},"BreadcrumbList",[38,42,45,48],{"item":39,"name":40,"@type":41,"position":20},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":43,"name":44,"@type":41,"position":11},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",{"item":46,"name":12,"@type":41,"position":47},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/literature/",3,{"item":49,"name":13,"@type":41,"position":50},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/kunitomo-gun-museum-explore-nagahamas-firearms-history/140416/",4,{"url":49,"name":13,"@type":52,"author":53,"headline":13,"publisher":55,"fileFormat":58,"inLanguage":22,"description":14,"dateModified":59,"datePublished":60,"encodingFormat":58,"isAccessibleForFree":61,"interactionStatistic":62},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":54},"Person",{"url":39,"name":56,"@type":57},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-09-05","2026-08-24",true,{"@type":63,"interactionType":64,"userInteractionCount":11},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":65},"ViewAction",{"@type":67,"mainEntity":68},"FAQPage",[69,75,79],{"name":70,"@type":71,"acceptedAnswer":72},"How many antique weapons are displayed at the Kunitomo Gun Museum?","Question",{"text":73,"@type":74},"About 50 antique weapons are on display, mostly dating from the late Edo period.","Answer",{"name":76,"@type":71,"acceptedAnswer":77},"What time period do many of the museum’s weapons come from?",{"text":78,"@type":74},"Most weapons in the collection date to the late Edo period (1603–1867).",{"name":80,"@type":71,"acceptedAnswer":81},"What did Kunitomo Ikkansai invent besides firearms?",{"text":82,"@type":74},"Ikkansai’s work included projection mirrors and the first Japanese-made reflective telescope, which he used for astronomical observation.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":49,"og:type":85,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":56,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":87,"canonical":49},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":23},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":90},[91,95,98,102,107,112,117,122,127,130,134],{"id":20,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":92,"show_sort_weight":93,"slug":94},"Story & Novel",90,"story-novel",{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":96,"slug":97},80,"literature",{"id":50,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":99,"show_sort_weight":100,"slug":101},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":103,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":104,"show_sort_weight":105,"slug":106},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":108,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":109,"show_sort_weight":110,"slug":111},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":113,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":114,"show_sort_weight":115,"slug":116},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":118,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":119,"show_sort_weight":120,"slug":121},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":123,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":124,"show_sort_weight":125,"slug":126},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":125,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":128,"show_sort_weight":125,"slug":129},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":131,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":132,"show_sort_weight":131,"slug":133},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":135,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":136,"show_sort_weight":103,"slug":137},19,"General","general"]
