\ncOSPLAY BY @GILLYSAGOLDFISHPHOTOGRAPHY BY BRIAN NISHIMOTO \nKEYLETH \nFANIME 2019 \nTHE COSPLAY \nKEYLETH WAS my first self-made cosplay, this photo-graphed here being my~4th variation of the cosplayin 3 years after its debut at Fanime 2016.SinceKeyleth is a DnD character from a live-streamedgame,there is much more freedom to get creative incosplay, since there are very few official designs ofthe characters.Lots of events in-game change thecharacter's outfits and appearance, meaning I couldcreate a whole new design for myself to cosplay. \n# SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST CAMPAIGN OF CRITICAL\n\nROLE:This specific version of Keyleth is heavily in-spired by the unhappy ending that she got from herlove story with Vax,another player character in thegame. He was taken away by his patron deity(basi-cally died)and they were never able to settle downtogether like they both wanted so badly. The darkcolors represent her mourning and are also an hom-age to Vax being a champion of the Raven Queen. This symbolism also inspired the feathers in theheadpiece and on the top of the mantle. The make-upis inspired by the myth of the cheetah tear marks;astory about having loved ones taken away so youngand them never coming back the same way.I alwaysjoked that my goal with this cosplay was to makesomeone cry when they saw it.Many people did seeall the details I added, understood the references andI do think a couple people teared up. \n# WHAT IS IT THAT DREW YOU TO HER?\n\nSuperficially I wanted to cosplay her due to the factthat she was an awkward redhead, and so was I.Mybrother was the one that introduced me to Keylethbecause there was this character that reminded himof me from his new favorite show,Critical Role, andthat where the story of this cosplay began.Thedesign elements that were described about her weresomething that I was really drawn to,like the antlersand the leaves, and these gave me immediate ideason how I wanted to make them. \n# WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THE CHARACTER?\n\nShe is insecure about her leadership, but is reso-lute in her ideals and tries to be the moral compassin her party. Her appearance is somewhat soft anddelicate often causing others to underestimate her.Everyone in her party, however, including the goliathbarbarian, knows that she is possibly the strongestand most deadly one they travel with. Her anxietiesresonated with me,but I love that she still foughtfor what she believed, and argued with her friends to \ntry and make them see other points of view. She wasso strong but also kind, even if she was not able toget her happy ending. \nWHAT WENT INTO THE CREATION OF YOUR COSPLAY?This version of Keyleth has been slowly put to-gether over nearly two years.I spent about 30 hoursover the course of 18 months putting together themantle.I created the cloak by gluing the leaves on,sewing the feathers and the trim to the top, creatingthe shoulder pads, glueing the feathers to those, andsorting the feathers by length to give the desiredsilhouette.I made my first draft of the cloak withabout 1300 flat leaves,a bag of feathers, and a yardof father trim in four days. The next year I collect-ed more and more garlands with three-dimensionalleaves to add into the cloak to make it look more or-ganic rather than flat leaf fabric.I added flowers andother things like glitter beads and butterflies intothe cloak, really just whatever I found and what fit.1still plan on adding more and more as I find suitableaccessories.I even added a lining to the cloak, tomake the front of the cosplay as interesting as theback view, since when posing for photos, you gener-ally take one of the front of the outfit and I didn'twant it to be a view of hot glue saturated velvet. \nI later made the corset,my first ever, out of the fab-ric from a dress I found at Goodwill. After this shootI remade the corset to improve the fit,as I lostabout 30 Ibs since first making it.This cosplay isstill evolving! The skirt was the most simple aspect, consisting of a blue chiffon layer and a black chiffonlayer t","cbCaivdyf6kDbAjq","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaivdyf6kDbAjq","pdf",6538536,"English","# Spoilers for the first campaign of Critical
