Once again, he was struck by the stark nature of the place. Despite someone’s attempt at softening the room with pastel blue paint and tropical prints, it didn’t negate the fact that the only furniture in the room was a wide metal table with two metal chairs on opposite sides, and a small desk in the corner where an observer normally sat.  \nToday there was a single figure in the room. Every time he came to the facility, Victor was repulsed by the figure’s appearance. Just shy of eight feet tall, the creature’s intellect was matched only by its hideous nature. The skin was yellow to the point of being almost translucent, pulled taut over its misshapen frame. The mouth was little more than a black line, and watery eyes peered out from beneath a high forehead, the head covered in midnight-black hair.  \n“The inquisitor arrives,” the figure said, its voice snapping Victor out of his reverie.“When you have reacclimated yourself to this place and tomy appearance, come sit down. We don’t have much time.”  \n“Oh,” Victor said, moving toward the table,“it’s not that—“  \n“Let’s not lie to one another,” the creature said.“I am aware of what Iam. There are mirrors in this facility. And I have over one hundred and forty years of experience with your kind. So please don’t insult my intelligence.”  \n“I…I’m sorry. That wasn’t my intent.”  \n“Regardless,” the creature said,“we are here, and today is our last session as you call it. So, let’s begin.”  \nVictor sat in the chair opposite the creature and put his portfolio on the table.  \n“You have the recorder and are ready to proceed?”  \nVictor removed the digital recorder from the portfolio and put the leather pouch on the floor next to his chair. At the same time, he took the opportunity to glance under the table. As with his other visits, there was a  \nstrong chain attached to an iron ring embedded in the floor in front of the chair opposite him. The chain ended in a pair of wrist shackles secured to the creature’s wrists.  \nVictor sat up and raised the recorder to his lips.  \n“Session four,” he said and looked at the figure across from him.“This is to be our last conversation at the subject’s request.” He put the recorder down and pushed it to the middle of the table.“For the record, we have covered the majority of your life, if that is the correct word, up to this point. But there are some places where the public record, if you will, is at odds with reality. And you want to address some of those areas.
