Only his son knew his whereabouts.  \nOne day, the lion was assleep. He kept his mouth open as he had a bad cold. A long snake passing by mistook lion's open mouth for a hole. It entered and made itself comfortable at lion's throat.  \nThe lion could not roar. Whenever the snake changed position inside his throat, the lion experienced terrible pain. Using sign language, the lion announced that if anyone charmed the snake out of his throat, he would richly reward him. Many young animals came and tried to lure the snake out but with no success.  \nThe son of Kalulu hatched a plan. He came to the lion and whispered in his ear that he had recently seen a wise person in a cave. This person could come and lure the snake out of the lioin's throat.  \nOn hearing this, the lion ordered for this person to be brought immedietely. The hare disguised himself as agreat magician. He tied a skin cap on his head and a garland of tiger teeth around his neck. He looked like a witchdoctor. He the set off to see the lion. On the way, he trapped a mouse that he carried with him.  \nOn arrival, he found the lion very weak and thin. His senses had grown weak and coukd not see clearly. Kalulu made a great show of dancing rhythmically round the lion, uttering spells and invoking the spirits of the dead. H e then placed the dead mouse in front of the lion's mouth.  \nAfter a short while, the snake inside the lion's throat sensed the smell of the mouse and slipped out of the lion's mouth to fibd the source of the smell. At once the lion's mouth to find the source of the smell. At once the lion felt a great relief. Roaring with joy, he hugged Kalulu saying; \"Dear friend, name your price now and i will grant it this very minute!\"  \nKalulu, modest as all hares, said, \"Your majesty, for the sake of others, please grant all old animals the right to live. At a time like this, an old and experienced animal would have been of great help. \"  \nThe lion realised his previous mistake and immediately agreed to Kalulu's request.
