is with great humility that I under-take the office of President of the YoungLawyers Section. The past administrationunder Vernon Char has reached a heightof accomplishment never before equaled.Your new Young Lawyers Executive Boardintends to carry on this level of activityand diversify our effort into new programs. \nPaul Devens will again take charge oflegislative matters and Burnham H.Gree-ley will continue the task of attempting todetermine whether the lawyers of Hawaiiwish to integrate. \nThis administration is pledged to re-main conscious of the diversity of itsmembers and will continue the policyof providing an association for all in-.terests including government attorneysand private attorneys, members of largefirms and members of small firms, outerisland attorneys,as well as Oahu attor-neys,attorneys of different political af-filiations and different racial backgrounds, practicing attorneys, administrators, specialists and general practitioners. \nAmong the new programs we willinitiate in 1964 is that of awarding aplaque to a layman who has distinguishedhimself by making the most outstandingcontribution to the law. This program iscalled the Liberty Bell Award Programas the planue depicts a Liberty Bell asa symbol of the benefits of the law.Wewill coordinate this award with our con-vention in October. \nYour Executive Board is well suitedto carry on this program.Your newofficers for the year are Tom L.Peter-son,Vice President and President Elect,Philip H.Ching,Secretary, and JohnJubinsky,Treasurer. \nSamuel Chang is acting not only as aco-membership chairman with John Jub-insky,but is also the Executive Board'sadvisor for the Journal.Stanley Mukaiis the Editor in Chief of the Journalassisted by Governing Editors George \nDavid Zundel is undertaking a studyto determine whether deficiencies existin our Supreme Court Library. \nWe hope that our program secures theparticipation of all the attorneys of Hawaii. \nDwight M.Rush \nThe of the BarAssociation has decided to poll all licensedpracticing attorneys in Hawaii for an ex-pression of their opinion as to whether ornot they think the Bar should be integrated. \nI was surprised and somewhat disap-pointed when T heard comment at our lastannual meeting that the membership wasbeing called to vote upon something theyknew very little about.Various committeesof the Bar Association have worked on thequestion of integration for the last fouryears and sundry articles on the subjecthave appeared in this publication.(Scereports and articles in Vol.1 No.4 andVol.1 No.7.) \nAn
