Through her lively tales of her sons, James laughs and begins to look at family connections differently. When Grandmother announces a journey to visit each son, James accompanies her, learns to observe changing landscapes, and experiences the trip’s early surprises en route to Maroua where Uncle Matthew lives.","Journey Around the Country \nEnglish Fiction \nJourney Around the Country \nWritten by \nCarol Smith \nImages by Tony Smith and MBANJI Bawe Ernest. \nEnglish \nUnited Kingdom \nCopyright © 2020, SIL Cameroon \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/)[ ](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/)[You may not use this work for commercial purposes. He loved to go to her house and help her because after his hard work she would sit with him and tell him stories about her life as a girl in the village near Bamenda. \nShe also told him stories about some of the things her five sons had done while growing up. These stories often made James laugh. The eldest of his grandmother’s sons, Joshua, was James’s father. Sometimes James couldn’t believe that his grown-up father could have done such silly things. His father always said it wasn’t him that was silly, it was his brothers. But this just made grandmother smile. \nOne day Grandmother said she was going on a journey to visit each of her sons and would James like to come along with her for company. James was so excited, and pleased that she thought him sensible enough to travel with her. He promised to be very good and helpful. \nOn the evening before their journey he looked around the area where he lived. He saw the grassy highlands and the fast streams tumbling down the valley, everything was very green. He wondered if where his uncles lived it would be the same. \nFirst they got onto a bus and travelled through the night to stay with Uncle Matthew who worked in a government office in Maroua. Grandmother let James sit by the window of the bus so that he could see the country outside as they went along, but James soon fell asleep and slept all through the night. \nWhen he woke up in the morning he was surprised to see the bare sandy fields alongside the road. Just before the bus got to Maroua they went over a long, high bridge with only sand under it, which puzzled James. \nUncle Matthew lived in a house at the north edge of Maroua. There were fields behind the house and not too far away a rocky hill.","cbCaicH4cTQnsULC","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaicH4cTQnsULC","pdf",1733094,2,26,"English","en",105,"# Story\n## James Helps His Grandmother\n## The Journey Begins\n## Travel to Maroua","[{\"question\":\"Who is the main character in the story?\",\"answer\":\"James is the main character.
