Kept apart from Joseph, Jacob sends his sons while withholding Benjamin. Joseph, now governor, sells grain worldwide and confronts the brothers, testing them by accusing them of spying. Through his interpretation of the situation and the record of earlier dreams, the story emphasizes providence, recognition, and accountability as the famine forces difficult choices.","Joseph's Brothers Go to Egypt to Buy Grain \nTHE LIFE OF JOSEPH: PART 5 GENESIS 42 \nEnglish Spiritual \nCopyright © 2009, Kartidaya \nYou may not use this work for commercial purposes. His favorite son was Joseph. Because of their jealousy, the brothers captured and sold Joseph to Ishmaelites traveling to Egypt. \nThe Ishmaelites sold Joseph to Potiphar, a rich and powerful Egyptian. Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce Joseph. When she failed, she convinced her husband to have Joseph thrown into prison. \nThe LORD was with Joseph and blessed him even in prison. Joseph interpreted the dreams oftwo of the king’s servants who were also in prison. One servant was later released and the other executed. \nThe king's wine steward, who was released, remembered Joseph when Pharoah had worrisome dreams that no one could interpret. Joseph was brought from prison to interpret Pharoah's dreams. He told Pharoah that the dreams meant there would be seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine. \nPharoah but Joseph in charge of his country making him subject only to Pharoah. Under Joseph's direction grain was collected in storehouses during the seven years of plenty. Then came the years of famine. People from all over the world came to Egypt to buy grain. \nWhen Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons,“Why don't you do something? I hear that there is grain in Egypt; go there and buy some to keep us from starving to death.” \nGenesis 42:1-2 \nSo Joseph's ten half brothers went to buy grain in Egypt, but Jacob did not send Joseph's full brother Benjamin with them, because he was afraid that something might happen to him. \nGenesis 42:3-4 \nThe sons of Jacob came with others to buy grain, because there was famine in the land of Canaan. \nGenesis 42:5 \nJoseph, as governor of the land of Egypt, was selling grain to people from all over the world. So Joseph's brothers came and bowed down before him with their faces to the ground. \nGenesis 42:6 \nWhen Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he acted as if he did not know them. He asked them harshly,“Where do you come from?” \n“We have come from Canaan to buy food,”they answered. \nGenesis 42:7 \nAlthough Joseph recognized his brothers, they did not recognize him. He remembered the dreams he had dreamed about them and said,“You are spies; you have come to find out where our country is weak.” \nGenesis 42:8-9","cbCaiglpCm2Zi50P","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiglpCm2Zi50P","pdf",2865553,3,34,"English","en",105,"# The Brothers Go to Egypt\n## Joseph’s Rise and the Prison Dreams\n## The Famine and the Journey to Buy Grain\n## Joseph Confronts His Brothers","[{\"question\":\"Why do Joseph’s brothers go to Egypt?\",\"answer\":\"They go to buy grain because famine spreads through the land of Canaan.\"},{\"question\":\"Why doesn’t Jacob send Benjamin with the brothers?\",\"answer\":\"Jacob is afraid something might happen to Benjamin, so he keeps him behind.\"},{\"question\":\"How does Joseph react when his brothers arrive?\",\"answer\":\"Joseph recognizes them but acts as if he does not know them, questions their origin harshly, and accuses them of being spies.\"}]",1784289975,52,{"code":4,"msg":30,"data":31},"ok",{"site_id":24,"language":23,"slug":32,"title":13,"keywords":33,"description":14,"schema_data":34,"social_meta":85,"head_meta":87,"extra_data":89,"updated_unix":27},"josephs-brothers-go-to-egypt-to-buy-grain-the-life-of-joseph-part-5-genesis-42","",{"@graph":35,"@context":84},[36,52,67],{"@type":37,"itemListElement":38},"BreadcrumbList",[39,43,47,49],{"item":40,"name":41,"@type":42,"position":11},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":44,"name":45,"@type":42,"position":46},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":48,"name":12,"@type":42,"position":20},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/story-novel/",{"item":50,"name":13,"@type":42,"position":51},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/josephs-brothers-go-to-egypt-to-buy-grain-the-life-of-joseph-part-5-genesis-42/90027/",4,{"url":50,"name":13,"@type":53,"author":54,"headline":13,"publisher":56,"fileFormat":59,"inLanguage":23,"description":14,"dateModified":60,"datePublished":61,"encodingFormat":59,"isAccessibleForFree":62,"interactionStatistic":63},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":55},"Person",{"url":40,"name":57,"@type":58},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-07-27","2026-07-17",true,{"@type":64,"interactionType":65,"userInteractionCount":20},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":66},"ViewAction",{"@type":68,"mainEntity":69},"FAQPage",[70,76,80],{"name":71,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":73},"Why do Joseph’s brothers go to Egypt?","Question",{"text":74,"@type":75},"They go to buy grain because famine spreads through the land of Canaan.","Answer",{"name":77,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":78},"Why doesn’t Jacob send Benjamin with the brothers?",{"text":79,"@type":75},"Jacob is afraid something might happen to Benjamin, so he keeps him behind.",{"name":81,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":82},"How does Joseph react when his brothers arrive?",{"text":83,"@type":75},"Joseph recognizes them but acts as if he does not know them, questions their origin harshly, and accuses them of being spies.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":50,"og:type":86,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":57,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":88,"canonical":50},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":24},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":91},[92,95,99,103,108,113,118,123,128,131,135],{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":93,"slug":94},90,"story-novel",{"id":46,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":96,"show_sort_weight":97,"slug":98},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":51,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":100,"show_sort_weight":101,"slug":102},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":104,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":105,"show_sort_weight":106,"slug":107},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":109,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":110,"show_sort_weight":111,"slug":112},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":114,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":115,"show_sort_weight":116,"slug":117},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":119,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":120,"show_sort_weight":121,"slug":122},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":124,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":125,"show_sort_weight":126,"slug":127},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":126,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":129,"show_sort_weight":126,"slug":130},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":132,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":133,"show_sort_weight":132,"slug":134},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":136,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":137,"show_sort_weight":104,"slug":138},19,"General","general"]
