It recounts how Jonah, a prophet, was commanded by God to travel to Nineveh to warn its inhabitants of their wickedness. However, Jonah disobeyed God's direct command and instead boarded a ship bound for Tarshish. During the voyage, God sent a fierce storm that threatened to break the ship apart. While the sailors prayed to their gods and cast cargo overboard, Jonah, who was asleep below deck, was awakened by the ship's captain and urged to pray to his God for their salvation. The sailors, realizing Jonah's disobedience was the cause of their distress, asked him what they should do. Jonah instructed them to throw him into the sea, believing this would calm the storm. Although reluctant, the sailors eventually threw Jonah overboard, and as he disappeared beneath the waves, the sea miraculously became calm and the wind ceased. This event instilled fear and wonder in the sailors, leading them to worship the LORD. The story highlights themes of disobedience, divine intervention, and the power of God.","26 Jonah and the Big Fish \nWritten by Edward Hughes [www.bibleforchildren.org](www.bibleforchildren.org) 26/60 \nEnglish Story Book \nMany years ago, a man named Jonah lived in the land of Israel. One day, God told him to goto Nineveh, the biggest, most powerful city in the world. \nJonah was to warn all the people there that God knew how wicked they were . \nJonah disobeyed God! Instead of going to Nineveh, Jonah got onto a ship and sailed away in the opposite direction to a place called Tarshish. \nThe LORD God sent out a great wind into the sea . There was a huge storm! The sailors feared the ship might break apart and sink. \nThe storm got worse and worse . Terrified, the sailors prayed to their gods and threw all the cargo overboard to lighten the ship. But nothing helped. \nJonah was the only person on board who wasn't praying. Instead, he was lying down inside the ship, sound asleep. \nThe ship's captain found him .“What are you doing sleeping? Get up! Say a prayer to your God! Maybe God will think of us, so that we will not be destroyed.” \nThe sailors soon decided that their trouble had something to do with Jonah. He told them that he was running away from the LORD. They asked,“What should we to do to you, so that thesea may become calm for us?” “Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” Jonah replied.“For I \nam certain that because of me this great storm has come on you .” \nThe sailors didn't want to throw Jonah overboard. So they rowed hard to bring the ship to land. But they couldn't. There was only one thing to do! \nAfter praying for forgiveness, the sailors lifted Jonah up and tossed him over the \nside . As Jonah disappeared below the waves, the sea became still and the wind died down . The sudden change in the weather scared the sailors more than the storm did. They must have known only God could do that. In fear and wonder, they worshiped the LORD.","cbCaipjotUuhgObY","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaipjotUuhgObY","pdf",2548623,4,1,30,"English","en",105,"# Jonah and the Big Fish\n## Jonah's Disobedience\n## The Great Storm\n## Thrown Overboard","[{\"question\":\"What was Jonah instructed to do by God?\",\"answer\":\"Jonah was instructed by God to go to Nineveh, the biggest and most powerful city in the world, to warn its people of their wickedness.\"},{\"question\":\"Why did Jonah disobey God?\",\"answer\":\"The text states that Jonah disobeyed God and ran away from Him by getting onto a ship sailing in the opposite direction to Tarshish.\"},{\"question\":\"How did the sailors react to the storm and Jonah's presence?\",\"answer\":\"The sailors became terrified by the storm and prayed to their gods, throwing cargo overboard.
