At the beginning of this chapter, what did Pilate do? \n2. What did the soldiers do? \n3. After flogging Him, Pilate again brought Jesus out before the people. He said he could find no fault in Him. What did the chief priests say? \n4. Why did the Jews think Jesus should die? \n5. Being afraid, Pilate asked Jesus again where He came from. What did Jesus say? \n6. Finally, what did Pilate do? \nHow do you think you would have felt if you had been part of the crowd? How do you think Jesus' followers felt? \nRead or listen to John 19:17-27 \n1. Carrying His own cross, Jesus went out to be crucified. Pilate had a notice put on the cross. What did it say? \nWhat did the chief priests say about that? \nWhat was Pilate's answer? \n2. What did the soldiers do with Jesus' clothes? Why was it important that nothing was torn? \n3. What did Jesus do when He saw His mother near by? \nWhat do you think Mary was thinking at this time? \nRead or listen to John 19:28-42 \n1. After Jesus was offered the vinegar drink, what did He say? \n2. The Jews did not want to leave the bodies on the crosses during the Sabbath. What did they ask Pilate to do? \nWhy did they not break Jesus' legs? \nWhat did they do instead? \nWhy was this significant? \n3. Who asked for Jesus' body? \nDo you remember Nicodemus from an earlier chapter in the Book of John? \n4. How much did the spices weigh that they wrapped around Jesus' body? \n5. After wrapping Jesus' body, what did Joseph and Nicodemus do with it? \nThe Gospel of Matthew tells us that guards were placed at the tomb to be sure that Jesus'body could not be stolen away. Jesus had been kept up all night, beaten, deserted by His closest friends, nailed to a cross, pierced with a spear so that blood flowed from His body very quickly, He was wound up in linen cloths with seventy-five pounds of spices, and laid in a new tomb with guards keeping watch. Do you think He could have easily gotten up and walked away? Would it have been easy to steal His body? \nHow do you think the disciples, Jesus'mother, and His followers felt that evening and \nnext day? \nRead or listen to John 20:1-18 \n1. Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, what did Mary Magdalene find? \n2. What did Mary Magdalene do next? \n3. What did Peter and John do? \n4. The stone had been rolled away. Where were the guards? What did Peter see when he went inside the tomb? \n5. The other disciple (John) also went inside. Scripture says, \"he saw and \" \n6. The disciples went back home. What did Mary do? When she looked into the tomb what did she see? \n7. The angels asked Mary why she was crying, and then what happened? \n8. What did Jesus ask Mary? Who did she think He was? \n9. Jesus spoke Mary's name, then what did she say? What did Jesus instruct her to do? \nRead or listen to John 20:19-31 \n1. Verse 19 tells us that that evening the disciples were together, and the doors were locked. Why? \n2. While the disciples met in a locked room, who appeared? What did He say? Then what did He do? How did the disciples feel? \n3. What assignment did He give them?","cbCaitayCvUZg46e","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitayCvUZg46e","pdf",491179,1,17,"English","en",105,"# John 19:1-16\n## Crowd and Pilate decisions\n# John 19:17-27\n## Crucifixion details and Jesus’ care for Mary\n# John 19:28-42\n## Death, burial requests, and burial actions\n# John 20:1-18\n## The empty tomb and Jesus’ meeting with Mary Magdalene\n# John 20:19-31\n## Jesus’ appearance to locked-room disciples","[{\"question\":\"What key actions are asked about in John 19:1-16?\",\"answer\":\"The questions focus on Pilate’s actions, the soldiers’ behavior, what the chief priests said, why the Jews wanted Jesus to die, and what Pilate and Jesus discussed before Pilate’s final decision.\"},{\"question\":\"What does the reading ask about in John 19:17-27?\",\"answer\":\"It asks what Jesus’ notice on the cross said, what the soldiers did with Jesus’ clothes and why nothing should be torn, and what Jesus did when he saw his mother nearby.\"},{\"question\":\"What events are highlighted in John 20:1-18 and John 20:19-31?\",\"answer\":\"The prompts cover Mary Magdalene finding the empty tomb, the disciples’ responses, the angels’ message, and Jesus’ speaking to Mary.
