This chapter opens with Jesus warning the disciples about what is going to happen in the future. What things did He say would happen? Why did He tell them these things?  \nWhat would you think if you were told these things? Would you still follow Jesus?  \n2. Who could not come unless Jesus went away?  \n3. What will the Comforter do when He comes?  \n4. Jesus also calls the Comforter the  \n_________  \n    .  \n5. What did the disciples not understand? How did Jesus answer them?  \nThere are differences of opinion as to what event Christ was referring to. When He said He would 'see them again', was He referring to after His resurrection, His sending the Spirit at Pentecost, or His Second Advent.  \nJesus goes on to say, \"In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.\" (John 16:23 NIV) It seems He may have been refering to when we now pray. We pray to the Father in Jesus' name.  \n6. The disciples say they are now understanding what Jesus is telling them. Then Jesus says a time is coming when they will scatter and leave Him alone. Do you think they understood that?  \nRead or listen to John 17:1-19  \n1. At the beginning of His prayer, what did Jesus ask the Father to do?  \n2. What does Jesus say eternal life is?  \n3. Jesus asks the Father to glorify Him with the glory He had when?  \nWhat important truth does that tell you about Jesus?  \nJesus then prays for those that are His (the disciples) . In spite of their failures, He praises them for having believed and obeyed.  \n4. Jesus prays that the disciples \"may be  \nas we (He and the Father) are  \"  \n5. Why does the world hate the disciples?  \n6. Jesus continued praying, \"Sanctify them by the truth;   is truth.\"  \nRead or listen to John 17:20-26  \nNow Jesus begins praying for all believers.  \n1. What does Jesus pray for all believers?  \n2. Why does Jesus want His followers to have complete unity?  \n3. What does Jesus want concerning those the Father has given Him?  \n4. Jesus ends the prayer by saying, \" ... After praying, where did Jesus and His disciples go?  \n2. Who did Judas bring to the olive grove?  \n3. What happened when Jesus told the soldiers He was the one they were searching for?  \n4. What did Simon Peter do? What did Jesus tell Peter?  \n5. Then what did the soldiers do?  \n6. Simon Peter and John followed Jesus to the high priest.
