When King Ahaziah of Judah died, his mother, Athaliah, gave orders to kill everyone who might become king.  \nBut Ahaziah’s very young son Joash was rescued by Jehosheba, his aunt, who was also the wife of Jehoiada the priest. She kept him safely hidden in one of the rooms in the Temple for six years.  \nWhen Joash was seven years old, Jehoiada made Joash king. Protected by soldiers, Jehoiada crowned Joash, and anointed his head with oil. The people shouted,“Long live the king!”  \nHearing the noise, Athaliah hurried to the Temple. When she saw Joash, she tore her clothes and cried,“Treason!” Jehoiada ordered some soldiers to take her out of the Temple and kill her.  \nJehoiada the priest had the boy king Joash and the people of Judah make an agreement with the Lord. They promised that they would always obey God.  \nThen the people who were there went to the temple of Baal and destroyed it.
