Confer-ence.ACA officials were delighted at the turnout.  \nBefore we get too far ahead,we would liketo remind Corrections Digest readers that yourpublisher is still about nine miles behind the powercurve when it comes to the field of corrections.As a result,you may read some basically naivestatements in this coverage.Although we havebeen told that it is not smart to admit corrections directorsays.The director has the option of choosing lethalinjection or a firing squad in executing death warrants,and said shooting is cleaner and quicker.  \nIn Fort Worth...  \n## TEXAS OPENS FIRST RESIDENTIALCOMMUNITY RESTITUTION CENTER\n\nTexas has been taking a giant leap forward in the devel-opment of community restitution programs as an alternativeto sending more people to its overcrowded prisons.  \nAs part of this effort,the Tarrant County Adult Proba-tion Department and the Volunteers of America in Decemberhosted dedication ceremonies for the first restitution centerin the state.  \nThe ceremonies,attended by over 100,were held onthe front grounds of the center,located at 1400 RiversideDrive in Fort Worth.  \nAlthough unable to attend,Texas Governor Mark Whitesent his greetings to those at the ceremony through a letter.  \n“You are to be commended for taking the initiative ofestablishing the first restitution center authorized by the 68thTexas Legislature,\"Gov.White wrote.“I am encouraged byyour early efforts toward implementing this program,andhave great expectations for its potential for diverting non-violent offenders from incarceration.I believe that the Stateof Texas has entered a new era in criminal justice andcorrections policy,and I offer you my support in thisendeavor.\"  \nJanuary 18,1984  \nThe center has 45 beds and,at the time of thededication ceremonies,had a resident population of 17.Ten of the residents were employed,while the remainingresidents were acquiring the necessary job skills to
