HALL \n口 \noe.1909- \n6568 \nLeaves \n“RIGHT ONWARD” \nST.MARY's HALL,BURLINGTON,N.J. \nOcTOBER,I909 \nNo.I \nInstead of a sentimental editorial with gushysentences about the flag being hung out to thebreeze to announce the beginning of another schoolyear,or the doors opened for the seventy-third timeto welcone old pupils and to receive new ones,or,after a long summer's nap,St.Mary's Hall awokeone morning in late September to the ripple oflaughter and merry talk,we will come right to thepoint and tell you the things you want to know. \nNOTICES. \nIvy Leaves. \nIvy Leaves will be issued during the coming \nschool year in eight numbers;the subscription price \nbeing ONE DOLLAR. \nThe editor of Ivy Leaves feels that while the \nwelcome accorded the paper has been a warm one, \nthe subscription list is not at all what it should be,as only one-fifth of the graduates are subscribers. \nSt.Mary's Hall opened on Thursday, the 30thof September,a beautiful autumn day,and despitesuch an attraction as the Hudson-Fulton Celebration, most of the girls had arrived by dinner time, thelimit of the summer vacation. The school openedwith a full enrolment, with a proportion of three-ifths old girls and two-fifths new;and as charminga set of girls as you will find in the United States. One feature is especially noteworthy and significant, namely that about one-third of those of this year'senrolment are relatives of graduates of the Hall.We have with us six direct grand-daughters of theHall,Jeannette Williams, daughter of Grace Hedges;Susanne and Margaret Warren, daughters of AnnaGeissenhainer;Mary Steacy, daughter of JosephineMusselman;Dorothy Hover, daughter of MariannaVought, and Helen Hatch, daughter of HelenaBemus. \nThe paper is edited mainly for the graduates,crowd- \ning out much school news which might make thepaper more attractive to the present pupilsIts \npreparation takes a great deal of time and the editor \nfeels somewhat discouraged at the response given \neach year to the appeal to every graduate to be- \ncome a subscriber. We have proved the value of \nthe paper as a means of keeping in touch with the \nHall and renewing old friendships, and those who \nhave once subscribed seldom fail to renew their sub. \nscription.We are, however, anxious to widen our \ncircle of readers, especially this year, the Re-unionyear,and with that purpose in view we are sending \na copy to every graduate of whom we have the ad \ndress.We would urge all graduates to give the littlepaper a trial for at least a year, and to send their \nsubscription. \n \nWe have several sisters of more recent gradu-ates,and it seems quite natural to have again thenames of Cranson,Daniels,Metzger,Patterson andWanbaugh on our roll.We have also some niecesof graduates, among the new girls being LucindaBradford, niece and namesake of the Lucinda Brad-ford who was valedictorian of the class of 1879,nowMrs.A.H.Culbreth of Dover,Delaware, and LucieShriver, niece and god-daughter of Mrs.WilliamAchenbach(Jessie West),and we could mentionseveral cousins and many friends of graduates whoare here through the love and praise of graduatesfor Alma Mater. \nThe Re-union Fund. \nWe wish to call the attention of our readers to \nthe Re-union Fund.It is hoped and expected thatTHREE THOUSAND DOLLARS will be raised by \nnext June: \nCash in hand June,1909 …… …$1,115.55 \nReceived since: \nMiss Christine Gayler …………… 10.00 \nMiss Alice Birchall(2nd payment)... 5.00 \n5.00 \nMiss Alice English(2nd payment)..… \nMiss Eliza Ridgway …… …… 5.00 \nRecitations began the first morning,a planwhich we think might be salutarily copied by otherschools. It means hard work for several days beforeschool opens and often involves the writing of manyletters to former teachers of new girls to be ableto grade them, not to mention long hours spentmaking out the schedule, but the confusion avoidedand occupation provided made our first day verydifferent from the proverbial damp atmosphere ofboarding-schoo","cbCaieSovlw6kvTV","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaieSovlw6kvTV","pdf",56150128,132,"English","# Notices\n## Ivy Leaves subscription
