Taken in the street in the coastal city of Zihuatanejo, it marks the first of her many forays into photographing the diverse peoples of Mexico. Pachuco style became fundamental to twentieth-century Mexican identity. This dapper urban man smokes a cigarette in front of a shuttered store.
