Students will begin their actual SAT and/or ACT testing in their Junior year. \nDO STUDENTS NEED TO TEST? \nAlthough most university admissions have now adopted test optional policies, most ‘Iolani students still attempt at least one official SAT. A much smaller subset \ndecide to retest based on admission ranges posted on university admission sites. Factors that affect one’s exam choice include specific university requirements, personal aptitude for a particular test structure, or ease in retesting. Few students elect the ACT due to the limited testing options on Oahu, and because our students find a natural aptitude for the SAT after 3 years of taking the \nPSAT. Less than 90 universities have adopted test-free policies; although this group does include the University of California and California State University systems, these schools are rare. Some scholarships still require standardized testing results. Whatever students do, they should research universities and consult their college counselor to make an informed decision. Students ultimately control whether a university sees a given score, so attempting a test or even retesting comes with little risk. \nTEST DATES 2026–2027 \nSAT® \nRegister at www.
