Volume 1 assembles multiple standalone stories under one cohesive tone, moving from the perspective of a ghostly child to scenes of danger, loss, and eerie encounters. Each piece stands alone while reinforcing the book’s overarching exploration of darkness, longing, and the strange comfort of returning to one’s world. I hope it’ll be special to you. \nWhen I started out in this writing game, I wrote just for me. I still preorder all my own books, so that I know I’ll have one preorder. I take nothing for granted and every single person who has every read any of my pieces of fiction, I appreciate. Even if you hated it. That’s right, I do. You’ve allowed yourself to visit my worlds and I’m forever thankful for that. \nThe collections (VOL1 and VOL2) make up all my externally published stories (of various lengths) since my first acceptance – forever grateful to you for that, Kevin J. Kennedy!– until recently. At least stories that have aged enough that I can republish them. There are a few from 2023 that haven’t been included in here but will appear in future volumes. \nThe reason I’m releasing these two volumes is two-fold. The first is that I know I have some people who dig my work, who simply can’t afford to buy every anthology I’m in. Those people, those completionists, deserve to be able to collect my work and enjoy it when they can. \nThe second – and this is one of the big drivers of everything I do in life – is to show my son ‘you can.’ You can accomplish anything, and you should be proud of what you create. \nI’m beyond proud of every story in these two releases. \nUnlike my other releases, I won’t be having an afterword or an acknowledgement section, as I’d like the stories to stand on their own. \nSo, to wrap this up, thank you to every publisher that has taken a chance on my work. Thank you to Don Noble and Rooster Republic Press for the covers for these two volumes. Thank you to David Sodergren who either read and/or provided feedback on almost every single story in these two volumes. Read his work. He’s phenomenal. And thank you to Amanda and Auryn for constantly making me laugh. \nUntil we meet again, \nSteve \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nSnow on a CleaȒ Night \nSimon was dead. \nSitting on the front step of his parent’s house, he waited for his best friend, Mike to get home from school. \nMike lived across the street and didn’t mind that Simon wore a sheet over his body. Two eyeholes cut into the thin piece of material showcased Simon’s black eyes. Mike found that even without seeing his friends face anymore, the eyes divulged how Simon was feeling just as well as any facial expression ever could. \nThis was Simon’s favorite time of the year. \nFall. \nThe leaves had changed colors, people started to decorate and put out blow ups of zombies, vampires and scary clowns. Neighbors raked their yards, kids and dogs alike running and jumping in the piles. The coats were thicker, gloves keeping hands warm. \nThe summer was Simon’s least favorite season because Mike went away on vacation. \nDuring the summer months, Simon would bide his time. Hour after hour he’d wait on the front step, for August to end and for school to return. \nIt had been four years since Simon died. \nSince that day, Mike had grown older an","cbCaieXL03jfarwq","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaieXL03jfarwq","pdf",2639639,128,"English","en",105,"# Foreword\n# Snow on a Clear Night\n# A Broken Man\n# A Warrior ’s Call\n# Alone\n# Flayed Flesh\n# Do You Remember?\n# Pumpkin Kicker\n# Grave Digger\n# The Dare\n# The Bleeder\n# Out of Gas\n# The Screams\n# The New Girl\n# A Discovery\n# Eric, in a Small Town\n# Every Town Has That House\n# Salvation\n# Tradition\n# Won’t You Open the Door?\n# On the Mountain\n# Publication History","[{\"question\":\"这本书的内容结构是什么？\",\"answer\":\"本卷为《Into the Darkness: Stories》第一卷，收录多篇可独立阅读的短篇故事，并在前言中说明这些外部出版作品的汇编范围。\"},{\"question\":\"《Snow on a Clear Night》的核心氛围与人物关系是什么？\",\"answer\":\"故事以已故的Simon为起点，在万圣节前后的季节变化中等待朋友Mike回家，并通过“鬼魂与挚友”的互动建立情感与恐惧并存的氛围。\"},{\"question\":\"作者在前言中为什么推出这两卷故事？\",\"answer\":\"作者提到一是让喜欢自己作品、却无法购买所有合集的人也能收集并阅读；二是希望用创作经历鼓励自己的儿子，证明“你可以”。\"}]","Into the Darkness: Stories - Volume 1 - Steve Stred - Dark Tales Collection | PDF",1785678321,197,{"code":4,"msg":30,"data":31},"ok",{"site_id":23,"language":22,"slug":32,"title":13,"keywords":33,"description":14,"schema_data":34,"social_meta":85,"head_meta":87,"extra_data":89,"updated_unix":27},"into-the-darkness-stories-volume-1-steve-stred-dark-tales-collection","",{"@graph":35,"@context":84},[36,53,67],{"@type":37,"itemListElement":38},"BreadcrumbList",[39,43,47,50],{"item":40,"name":41,"@type":42,"position":11},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":44,"name":45,"@type":42,"position":46},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":48,"name":12,"@type":42,"position":49},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/story-novel/",3,{"item":51,"name":13,"@type":42,"position":52},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/into-the-darkness-stories-volume-1-steve-stred-dark-tales-collection/117686/",4,{"url":51,"name":13,"@type":54,"author":55,"headline":13,"publisher":57,"fileFormat":60,"inLanguage":22,"description":14,"dateModified":61,"datePublished":61,"encodingFormat":60,"isAccessibleForFree":62,"interactionStatistic":63},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":56},"Person",{"url":40,"name":58,"@type":59},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-08-02",true,{"@type":64,"interactionType":65,"userInteractionCount":4},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":66},"ViewAction",{"@type":68,"mainEntity":69},"FAQPage",[70,76,80],{"name":71,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":73},"这本书的内容结构是什么？","Question",{"text":74,"@type":75},"本卷为《Into the Darkness: Stories》第一卷，收录多篇可独立阅读的短篇故事，并在前言中说明这些外部出版作品的汇编范围。","Answer",{"name":77,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":78},"《Snow on a Clear Night》的核心氛围与人物关系是什么？" ,"https://schema.org",{"og:url":51,"og:type":86,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":58,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":88,"canonical":51},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":23},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":91},[92,95,99,103,108,113,118,123,128,131,135],{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":93,"slug":94},90,"story-novel",{"id":46,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":96,"show_sort_weight":97,"slug":98},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":52,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":100,"show_sort_weight":101,"slug":102},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":104,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":105,"show_sort_weight":106,"slug":107},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":109,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":110,"show_sort_weight":111,"slug":112},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":114,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":115,"show_sort_weight":116,"slug":117},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":119,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":120,"show_sort_weight":121,"slug":122},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":124,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":125,"show_sort_weight":126,"slug":127},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":126,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":129,"show_sort_weight":126,"slug":130},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":132,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":133,"show_sort_weight":132,"slug":134},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":136,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":137,"show_sort_weight":104,"slug":138},19,"General","general"]
