BRAZIL  \nBrazil is a federal republic composed of 26 federal states and a Federal District (Capital City Brasilia) governed by a presidential system. It has a population of more than 210 million inhabitants, distributed in more than 5,000 municipalities, in an area of 8,514,877 km², that accounts for 47% of the whole South American territory.  \nThe extensive Atlantic coast, with cinematographic beaches contrasting with mineral-rich mountains, integrates plains and plateaus of abundant harvesting fields of various kinds of crops. Brazil exports its goods to different parts of the world all year round. Brazil, home of the Amazon rainforest, is the fifth largest and most populated country in the world and accounts for 15 to 20% of the world's biodiversity, holding the largest hydrographic network in the planet.  \nBrazilian is well-known for being a multicultural country, formed by indigenous, African, European and Asian ethnicities. The officia l language in Brazil is Portuguese, which is the result of the Portuguese colonization in the 16th century. Brazil is the only Portuguese-speaking country on the American continent.  \nInternational students who choose a Brazilian university to develop their academic careers will fi nd undergraduate and graduate institutions of excellence, as well as courses in all areas of knowledge and an advanced research environment recognized worldwide. Above all, students will be able to learn about Brazilian culture, habits and have the opportunity to learn in a different country and environment.  \n2. CLIMATE  \nBrazil is located in the southern hemisphere, where winter and summer start, respectively, in June and December. The average temperature during the year in the southern states is around 20°C. Nonetheless, in the northern region, it is around 28°C.  \nIn Sao Paulo state the temperature varies a lot from region to region but, on average, in the summer we have 30°C or more. In autumn, the temperature is mild, with an average of 23°C. Winter days are usually sunny and temperature is sometimes below 15°C in some cities.  \nIn São Paulo, the capital city of the state, the temperature is a little lower than in therest of the state.
