Policy:Ⅱ\n\nno less dangerous!Indeed, the temporary feud be-tween the Bourbons and the Hapsburgs would even·tually strengthen the international Christian move-ment! \nEDITORS'NOTE:In our last issue we presentedthe first part of a symposium initiated by AndrewEzergailis'essay discussing the rival \"myths”of“monolithic”and “crumbling”communism.Below, the symposium is concluded with several additionalcommentaries and a final reply from Mr.Ezergailis.It should be noted that Mr.Ezergailis penned hisremarks without having seen the commentaries byMessrs.Mieli and Labedz, which were receivedtoo late to be sent to him. \nLet me come to some specific points.I begin withMr.Ezergailis'vocabulary:\"international Commu-ist movement,\"“the Communist world,\"etc.(Hedoes,at least, spare us“the international Communistconspiracy”—although one suspects that in his viewthe strengthening of communism which he sees result-ing from the Sino-Soviet split will surely restore it toits pristine vigor.)My comment is:to be sure,com-munism does exist,as does Christianity, but its secularrepresentations in sovereign states are not the less butthe more hostile towards one another as a result ofthis shared ideology. \nWilliam E.Griffith: \n# Ideological Cobwebs\n\nI \nam afraid that I am as bemused by the factualerrors in Mr.Ezergailis'article as by the faultinessof much of his analysis. At the risk of soundingsomewhat harsh, let me confess that his essay made methink of how an imaginary counsellor of the OttomanEmpire, entrusted with advising the Sublime Porteon the doings of those demented fanatics, the Euro-pean Christians, might have reacted to the news ofthe Thirty Years War:Christianity was,it seemed, nolonger monolithic—but,he
