upon the sceneit showed up very well against a backgroundof muddle and myth. The sincere in thosedays found it no trouble at all to recognizethe genuine article.Perhaps that is why theywent so readily to the lions. The same clarityof distinction is not present today.Perhaps \nthat is why we go so readily to the dogs. \nHaving had Christianity with us for so long, familiarity hasbred contempt.Contemptible people have devised contemptiblemores which they try to pass off to their own consciences(andto ours)as Christianity. As a general rule these home-madecreeds look amazingly tempting.Even the elect are prone topurchase a few gold bricks. \nThe post-Christian era then is one of close distinctions.Allthat glitters is not gold.Mercy may be confused with mahemand charity may be mistaken for—well, read \"How Nice,HowSweet,How Empty...\"and N.A.Krause will explain fully.Ifyou follow this up with Dorothy Dohen’s “Love or Be Damned,”the ability to detect fraud will grow in you and in your generation. \nThe students of Satan grow more astute as time goes on,andthe latest creed is much more deceiving than the one before it.The bourgeois spirit with its emphasis on comfort and the easy wayout, should not have fooled anyone, but it did.The new, braveideology of grim asceticism,low-heeled shoes, infrequent bathingand proletarian inconveniences, looks much more like Christianitybecause it is hard.Mrs.Stancioff distinguishes between heroicsand hysterics in \"Reluctant Heroes.\"Christ emerges the Hero, not Don Quixote. \nWe hope our readers will discern in this treatment of a sub-ject(the contrast of the genuine with the fake)a legitimate andeffective teaching method. The enemy is a deceiver,a clown, andhe is ruthless.Spotting this deception, and scanning the horizonfor the genuinely good, true and beautiful is an editorial job thatneeds doing. It is not being negative. It is being on your toesin a day when Satan is at our heels. \nTHE EDITORS \n\n| We will true concept of charity, and its utter perversion of the veryword itself. The world has not only mechanized men's minds;it has also crippled men’s hearts. It has,in fact, largely replacedmen's hearts with gold-plated incinerators wherein burn the lonelyfires of self-esteem and the phony fires of sentimentality. It's nowonder that everyone has heartburn instead of Christian charity. \nSaint Augustine says of charity,\"No gift of God is moreexcellent than this.It is this alone which divides the children ofthe eternal kingdom from the children of damnation.\"Americanssay of charity,\"It's a shameful handout from the haves to thehave-nots.We’ve got to be sure that we stay in the ranks ","cbCaiu7xwCjjt0EB","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiu7xwCjjt0EB","pdf",2018012,52,"English","# Editorial\n## How Nice,
