Heaven or Hell. The final scorewe will not know until a time when edit-ing a magazine will be the least of ourworries. We can, however, while still \nearthbound,sense the direction in which the battle is moving. This wecan do more or less by estimating which is in the ascendancy,Good orEvil. Is Christ being made more manifest in the affairs of men, orless? To whom are the activities of society directed,to God or toMammon? To what degree are the directives of the Church beingignored,to what extent are they being obeyed?Since this knowledgemust be at best intuitive,it is liable to be a truer judgment the closer weare to that borderline where Religion meets Life. The spearhead of theChurch's thrust is the laity. In the home, the forum, the laboratory, andthe workshop the spiritual either clashes or weds with the material. This is the battleground for which the Mass is a preparation.Behindus, tempering our weapons, welding hilt to blade, are the ministersadministering and the cloistered praying. The question of the day is:\"How goes the battle?\" \nHere,in the United States,it appears that we have reached a stale-mate,and to a great extent, since the solution to the world's temporalproblems waits upon the political direction of this country,a stalematehere retards the apostolate the world over. The disease from which theworld suffers is at the stage of crisis. An injection of potent Christianityat this moment might stave off complete collapse. This potency iswithin the Church in more than sufficient quantity. It is not beingadministered. The need is urgent! Why do we hesitate? \nFor our purpose here, the laity can be roughly divided into twogroups.Let us call one group the eager beavers, and the other, theblushing violets. The eager beavers are those men and women whohave successfully separated their religion and their careers so that at noplace do they overlap. Thus at any one time you will find them eagerlyattending to either the needs of their souls or the needs of their bodies. They are frightfully concerned about each, but never simultaneously.Abit of religion found in their daily affairs would be extracted withtweezers as a foreign ingredient. With equal care they keep theirreligious moments unadulterated by temporal considerations. As aconsequence,if you were to broach the subject of God's Providence, \nthey would immediately shift over to their religious shortwave,out-of-town,foreign broadcast circuit. Were this sort of thing to come in ontheir local station circuit, the wave-lengths dedicated to practical affairs,it would only be considered static, and be filtered out. \nThere is one thing that would make this divorce impossible in thelives of the eager beavers, and that thing is contemplation. No oneknows that better than they.It is in the avoidance of such a catastrophethat we find a third category in their lives. This is the time devoted todoing anything but thinking. It is the answer to the question,\"Whatare we going to do tonight?”This urge to do anything but contemplatereaches its heights on Saturday n","cbCaiaRycmY5eNwN","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiaRycmY5eNwN","pdf",2199261,52,"English","# Contents\n## Editorial\n## Making Concupiscence
