Feeds will be prepared as and when they are required by the babies and not as part of the preschool routine. \nBreast Milk Policy \nThe Preschool participates in the active encouragement of mothers to breast feed their babies. Therefore, the Preschool has put into place a Policy and associated Procedures to detail those arrangements necessary for the safe storage and use of breast milk. \nContainers \n􀂃 Breast milk should be brought to the Preschool in a sterilized bottle or in a sterile breast milk bag, suitable for the purpose of refrigerated storage and clearly marked with the infant’s full name \n􀂃 Bottles will be returned to parents/carers at the end of each preschool day. The containers will be washed but not sterilized. \n􀂃 Parents must ensure that the container is sterilized before re-use \nStorage \nBreast milk should be provided on a daily basis, unused milk will be discarded at the end of each feed. \nGeneral Handling \nCarers will ensure that the following Policy is strictly adhered to; \n􀂃 Breast milk is to be kept sterile at all times \n􀂃 DO NOT leave breast milk at room temperature for more than 1 hour \n􀂃 DO NOT heat breast milk on the stove or in the microwave \nPreschool Breast Milk Procedures \nThe following procedures are to be used by all staff handling, storing or using breast milk to feed an infant: \nOn Delivery: \n􀂃 Ensure that the parent has provided the breast milk in an airtight bottle clearly marked with the child’s name and dated \n􀂃 Breast milk is to be placed at the back of the fridge where it is the coolest prior to feeding an Infant with breast milk \nBefore feeding an infant with breast milk, ensure that: \n􀂃 A positive identification of the child is made, the date is checked and the correct breast milk is fed to the correct child \nWarming Breast Milk \n􀂃 Breast milk is to be warmed to a suitable body temperature to take the ‘edge’ off the milk \n􀂃 The milk is then to be checked for temperature to ensure that the milk is cool enough for the baby to drink \n􀂃 DO NOT HEAT breast milk on the stove or in the microwave. \nFeeding an Infant with Breast Milk \n􀂃 Feed the baby as normal using a suitable bottle and teat \n􀂃 Ensure that the baby is ‘winded’ correctly. \nAfter feeding an infant with Breast Milk \n􀂃 Unused breast milk (in that bottle) is to be discarded after 1 hour \n􀂃 Record feed time and amount taken by the infant \n􀂃 After final feed or at the end of the day discard all thawed and unused breast milk stored for that child \nHygiene \nBreast milk is a bodily fluid, which carries with it a (small) risk of infection and/or disease. The Preschool Policy is to advise staff handling or carrying out the feeding of breast milk to protect themselves against the risks of infection by; \n􀂃 Implementing good hygiene practices \n􀂃 Avoiding actual contact with the breast milk \n􀂃 Only employees that hold a level 2 food hygiene, and been trained in safer food better business or have undertaken training by management will undertake feed preparation duties \nFormula Milk Policy \nThose parents whom have requested their child to have formula milk at preschool must either; \n􀂃 Provide either: a carton of ready to use formula milk, a sealed pre-prepared formula powder as originally purchased or pre pared-formula powder in a sealed airtight container (with suitable premeasured compartments which is named) alongside a suitable named bottle \n􀂃 In the above circumstances , the Preschool Room Leader must ensure that if a parent provides separate bottle and formula powder the parent must state in writing the amount of boiled water that is \nto be used to make the formula milk i.e. If a baby is provided with enough powder","cbCainLPThj5nVeZ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCainLPThj5nVeZ","pdf",132073,"English","# Infant Breast or Bottle Feeding\n## Breast Milk Policy\n## Containers\n## Storage and General Handling\n## Preschool Breast Milk Procedures\n## Warming and Feeding Procedures\n## After Feeding and Hygiene\n## Formula Milk Policy\n## Formula Milk Procedures\n## Preparing and Feeding Formula Milk","[{\"question\":\"How should breast milk containers be provided and labelled for preschool?\",\"answer\":\"Breast milk should be brought in a sterilized bottle or sterile breast milk bag, suitable for refrigerated storage, and clearly marked with the infant’s full name.\"},{\"question\":\"What are the time and heating limits for breast milk?\",\"answer\":\"Breast milk must not be left at room temperature for more than 1 hour, and it must not be heated on a stove or in a microwave.\"},{\"question\":\"What steps must staff follow to prepare formula milk before feeding?\",\"answer\":\"Staff must read the parent’s instructions for water amount, boil and cool the water, wash hands, measure water, mix the correct formula powder, attach a sterilised teat and shake, then test temperature to ensure it is at body temperature before feeding.\"}]","Infant Breast and Bottle Feeding Policy - Safeguarding and Welfare Procedures | PDF",1790513808]
