We measured baseline VTE prevalence, and at 1-year follow-up, the cumulative incidence of symptomatic and composite VTE (symptomatic VTE and incidental VTE requiring treatment), bleeding, cerebral infarction/transient ischemic attack (TIA)/systemic embolicevent (SEE), and all-cause death. \nResults Of 1006 pancreatic cancer patients, 86 (8.5%) had VTE at baseline, and seven (0.7%) had symptomatic VTE. Significant risk factors of baseline VTE were Eastern \n\n| The data have been previously presented as an abstract atthe joint congress of The 26th International Association of Pancreatology and The 53rd Annual Meeting of the Japan Pancreas Society, 7–9 July 2022. |\n| --- |\n| Supplementary Information The online version contains supplementary material available at [https://doi.org/10.1007/](https://doi.org/10.1007/)[ ](https://doi.org/10.1007/)s00535-023-02033-3. |\n\n* Takuji Okusaka [tokusaka@ncc.go.jp](tokusaka@ncc.go.jp) \n1 Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Oncology, National Cancer Center Hospital, 5-1-1 Tsukiji, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-0045, Japan \n2 Department of Hepatobiliary-Pancreatic Surgery, Juntendo University Graduate School of Medicine, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Japan \n3 Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Oncology, National Cancer Center Hospital East, Kashiwa, Japan \n4 Oncology Center, Yamaguchi University Hospital, Ube, Japan \nCooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOGPS) of 1, body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m2, history of VTE, D-dimer > 1.2 µg/mL, and hemoglobin \u003C 10 g/dL. At 1-year follow-up, the cumulative incidence of events was higher for pancreatic cancer vs other cancers. Pancreatic cancer patients with VTE vs those without VTE had significantly higher incidences of bleeding, cerebral infarction/ TIA/SEE, and all-cause death. No significant risk factors for composite VTE were identified. \nConclusions The cumulative incidence of composite VTE during cancer treatment was higher in pancreatic cancer than in other cancer types. Some risk factors for VTE prevalence at cancer diagnosis were identified. Although VTE prevalence at cancer diagnosis did not predict the subsequent 1-year incidence of composite VTE, it was a significant predictor of other events such as all-cause death in pancreatic cancer patients. \nTrial registration UMIN Clinical Trials Registry; UMIN000024942 \nKeywords Incidence · Risk factors · Venous thromboembolism · Pancreatic cancer · Mortality \n5 Primary Medical Science Department, Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd., Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan \n6 Data Intelligence Department, Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd., Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, Japan \n7 Department of Medical Statistics, Toho University, Ota-ku, Tokyo, Japan \n8 Department of Clinical Data Science, Clinical Research & Education Promotion Division, National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry, Kodaira, Japan \nAbbreviations \nBMI \nCI \nCrCL \nCT \nDOAC \nDVT \nECOG PS \nHb \nHR \nOR \nPE \nSEE \nTF \nTIA \nVTE \nBody mass index Confidence interval Creatinine clearance Computed tomography Direct oral anticoagulant Deep vein thrombosis \nEastern Cooperative Oncology Group perfor \nmance status Hemoglobin Hazard","cbCaikuhPdxtcNob","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikuhPdxtcNob","pdf",1021759,11,"English","# Abstract\n## Background\n## Methods\n## Results\n## Conclusions\n# Introduction\n## Cancer-associated thrombosis and VTE\n## Clinical context in Japan and pancreatic cancer\n# Trial registration\n# Abbreviations","[{\"question\":\"What was the purpose of this pancreatic cancer substudy?\",\"answer\":\"It estimated the incidence of VTE and evaluated risk factors in pancreatic cancer patients using the Cancer-VTE Registry data.\"},{\"question\":\"How were outcomes measured during the study?\",\"answer\":\"Baseline VTE prevalence was assessed, and at 1-year follow-up the study measured cumulative incidence of symptomatic and composite VTE, bleeding, cerebral infarction/TIA/SEE, and all-cause death.\"},{\"question\":\"Which patients showed higher event rates at 1-year follow-up?\",\"answer\":\"Cumulative incidence of events was higher for pancreatic cancer versus other cancer types, and pancreatic cancer patients with VTE had higher incidences of bleeding, cerebral infarction/TIA/SEE, and all-cause death.\"}]","Incidence and risk factors for venous thromboembolism in the Cancer-VTE Registry pancreatic cancer subcohort | PDF",1790247434,28]
