The ACPE has granted the Feik School of Pharmacy reaffirmation of accreditation for the maximum term of eight years. The school will be monitored on six of the 26 Standards, with an interim report due on October 1, 2026.\u003Cbr>\u003Cbr>We are taking full advantage of the focus provided by the self-study report and re-accreditation process to further\u003Cbr>propel and guide the pursuit of preparing our students to advance the quality of healthcare in diverse populations. You have exceeded national and state passing rates again.\u003Cbr>Our graduates’ licensure exam scores were in the top 20% nationally, and second highest in the state.\u003Cbr>⎯ Dean Maize\u003Cbr>\u003Cbr>|\n\n\n| | HANDS ACROSS THE AMERICAS IN RESEARCH\u003Cbr>Dr. Paulo Carvalho, FSOP Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has an ongoing research collaboration with scientists in Brazil, on a project involving computational and synthetic chemistry of compounds against Alzheimer’s disease, with three recent papers published. They applied for a grant from the Minas Gerais State Office of Research, and this grant funded Dr. Carvalho’s visit to UFSJ-Universidad Federal de São João del-Rei, a public university in Brazil, from December 7 to 22. ([https://www.ufsj.edu.br](https://www.ufsj.edu.br))\u003Cbr>The original objective was to strengthen existing research collaborations, but it was expanded due to the current policy from the Brazilian Department of Education providing incentives to universities and research centers across the globe to establish collaborations. Dr. Carvalho was introduced to the\u003Cbr>Provost and International Affairs Coordinator from USFJ, and also from a private institution, UNIPTAN -Centro Universitário Presidente Tancredo de Almeida Neves. USFJ also has a School of Pharmacy, and UNIPTAN is opening its Veterinary school in 2024. They also have other health professions concentrations, both at the undergraduate and graduate level, with many possibilities for faculty and student exchanges.\u003Cbr>These contacts have led to promising conversations involving UIW’s International Affairs office and provosts from those Brazilian Universities. We hope this will further develop an avenue for beneficial partnerships between\u003Cbr>UIW and universities in Brazil. Dr. Carvalho, holding an MSc and PhD in Medicinal Chemistry, joined the UIW Feik School of Pharmacy faculty in June of 2016. She is an alumna of the University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy. Graduating in 2015, she transitioned to her shared faculty position with Methodist Healthcare Ministries (MHM) in 2018, as Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice. Dr. Lopez is board certified in ambulatory care pharmacy & her practice sites are with MHM.\u003Cbr>Dr. Lopez collaborates with an interdisciplinary team at two MHM clinics on the southside of San Antonio, the Wesley Health and Wellness Center and the Dixon Health and Wellness Center.
