This retrospective multicenter study evaluated guideline adherence levels and compared recurrence-free survival between patients who did and did not receive guideline-recommended therapies. Among intermediate/high-risk tumors, maintenance BCG was frequently omitted, while maintenance BCG was associated with significantly better recurrence-free survival. In T1 NMIBC, few patients received both second TUR and maintenance BCG, and recommended-therapy recipients showed improved recurrence-free survival versus propensity-matched non-recipients.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/healthcare/","Healthcare",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/improving-compliance-with-guidelines-may-lead-to-favorable-clinical-outcomes-for-patients-with-non-muscle-invasive-bladder-cancer-a-retrospective-multicenter-study/384355/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/improving-compliance-with-guidelines-may-lead-to-favorable-clinical-outcomes-for-patients-with-non-muscle-invasive-bladder-cancer-a-retrospective-multicenter-study/384355.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"kopisore","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-27","2026-09-24",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":55},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",14,{"@type":57,"mainEntity":58},"FAQPage",[59,65,69],{"name":60,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":62},"What was the study’s main objective?","Question",{"text":63,"@type":64},"To assess how closely patients with NMIBC followed guideline-recommended therapies and to evaluate outcomes for those who did versus those who did not receive the recommended treatments.","Answer",{"name":66,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":67},"How were guideline-recommended therapies evaluated in the study?",{"text":68,"@type":64},"The study calculated the proportion receiving adjuvant intravesical therapy or a second transurethral resection (TUR) and then assessed recurrence-free survival among patients who did and did not receive these therapies.",{"name":70,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":71},"Which therapies were linked to better recurrence-free survival?",{"text":72,"@type":64},"Maintenance BCG was associated with significantly better recurrence-free survival in both intermediate/high-risk groups. However, compliance with guideline recommendations is insufficient, and this may lead to unfavorable outcomes. We aimed to investigate the level of adherence to guideline recommendations in patients with NMIBC and evaluate the outcomes of those who did and did not receive guideline-recommended therapies. \nMethods: We performed a retrospective analysis of patients with histologically diagnosed NMIBC. The percentage of patients with intermediate- and high-risk tumors who received adjuvant intravesical therapy or second transurethral resection (TUR) was calculated. Recurrence-free survival was assessed in patients who did and did not receive the therapies. We conducted a propensity score-matched analysis to compare outcomes between patients with intermediate-risk and T1 NMIBC who did and did not undergo guideline-recommended therapies. \nResults: Overall, 1204 patients from the Tohoku Urological Evidence-Based Medicine Study Group and Kyoto University Hospital were included. Of patients with intermediateand high-risk tumors, 91 .0% and 74 .0% did not receive maintenance bacillus Calmette– Gurin (BCG), respectively. In both groups, significantly better recurrence-free survival was found for patients treated with maintenance BCG.
