This playtest is for an as-yet-unannounced book to be released in 2026, which will push the possibilities of magic itself.  \nThe necromancer is a grim battlefield controller, capable of wielding occult spells to cover the battlefield with their undead thralls. They can decide the best way to use these expendable thralls, whether that’s to empower themselves or to cast powerful grave spells.  \nThe runesmith is an artisan capable of supporting their party with a collection of runes they can write on themselves, allies, and even enemies. By combining these runes in strategic ways and invoking their power at the right moment, a runesmith can take advantage of any situation.  \nHow to Playtest  \nThe playtest will run until January 31st, 2025. We’re looking for your feedback, comments, and criticisms regarding these classes, but we’re focusing our attention on feedback from play, both online through play-by-post campaignsand VTTs and at in-person tables at home and at local game stores for those of you who can play such games safely. Make new characters, use them as PCs or adversaries, and run a few game sessions or encounters using them! Our friends at Demiplane will also be hosting a free preview of their online character-building tools, allowing you to build playtest necromancers and runesmiths online! These are very early iterations of the new classes, intended to test out fundamental new gameplay directions and implementations rather than play it safe, and we might stretch some basic assumptions of the game engine. The best way to find out if we’ve gone too far (or in the wrong direction) is for us to deliver them into your hands and let you play with them yourselves.
